What's the fastest CPU for CCE?

I am starting to build a PC just to encode movies using CCE. I'm not sure what is currently the fastest CPU to use?

I was thinking about waiting a few months for the AthlonX2 Dual Core but would appreciate any ideas from the forums.

Does CCE use Dual core, as I'm not sure about the Opterons or Xeons??

Just out of interest my current CPU is an Intel Pentium 4 3.4ghz Northwood. It takes 6 hours to encode a DVD using a 5 pass. I know I can drop it down to a 3 pass but I have got some money and wanna mega fast machine :D

The fastest is Athlon 64X2 4800. It almost 2 times faster (in WMV 9 coding) then Pentium 2.8 Ghz Northwood.

Dual Xenon 3.06 Ghz, 2GB Ram gives you 3.5 times faster then realtime.

This week i bulded a dual xeon 3 Ghz 1Mb Cache 800 Fsb system with the asus ncch-dl motherboard and 1gb of memory,The speeds i get with cce sp are around 4 tot 4.4 and the system is sold wa a 3 Ghz with 512 kb cache p4 and that machine was around 2.0 real time.

Strange, because I had 3x realtime on P4 3Ghz, but only 3.5x ond dual Xenon 3.06Ghz (Asus motherboard). I don't know why we had so different results.

Did you have the 533 fsb xeons? I noticed when i moved from p4 533 fsb to 800 Fsb it went a lot faster. MAybe same story with the xeons on 800 mhz Fsb.

Recently I read on DVDList forum that Dual Xenon 3.6 Ghz with SCSI 8 hdd (in raid 0) gives 5.5x realtime. Nice:)
If some have fast processor then he need very fast hdd disk to, especially when he encode from high bitrate source. CCE takes so many data, that "normal disk" cant handle this.

I stream my source for a single IDE Western Digi 8mb SE to a pair of 74gb Raptors in Raid-0. I havent got the money for a SCSI setup :-(

I'm thinking about getting a 4400+ X2 next week, so hopefully it will cut the times down a bit :-)
