Just am noticing that when I choose 'movie only' in RB, the subtitle is always 'on' on my DVD player. A slight annoyance, but would like to not have to always turn it off. Is this something that can be defaulted to 'off'' in RB? I know that DVDShrink has an option to select default off for subtitle display.

thanks

What dvd player do you have.... I've done a few "Movie Only" discs now and in my Sony and Pioneer I have to turn subtitles on but my Panasonic the subtitles are on from the start.

it's a pioneer, DV-270. Yeah I was wondering if it might be the player, rather than RB...

i have the same exact problem with a cheap dvd player (less than one year old..) but my other dvd player (5 years?) behaves properly. from what i've figured out, the subtitle settings are lost with the removal of everything and these "cheap" dvd players default to always on mode.

there's a good guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45440) on this forum that i've used to reinsert the subtitle settings, but i do find the extra steps annoying. i can't have DVD-RB create an ISO image by default. i have to use PgcEdit to open the files DVD-RB outputs > insert a command > use ImgTool Classic to create the ISO.

is this really the cheap dvd players fault? or is DVD-RB not doing something properly when doing movie-only? since i do all my back-ups movie only, having the subtitles always on is a bit bothersome. every backed-up DVD i instert i have to use the remote to turn off the subtitles (no "always off" settings on player) or use the method i mentioned above. also, anyone know if doing this method harm the settings with other players?

On movie-only encodes DVD-RB doesn't set them "on" or "off" -- it relies on the player to decide.

the problem is that sub's prefferences are part of tables/commands that are embedded in the menue, without that it's up to your players default settings whether they are displayed or not, some players will let you set prefferences some will not.

here is a guide for inserting the prefferences back into the video files if indeed you want to keep sub's and not see them

I hope that helps!

would it be harmful for DVD-RB to set them as off by default?

i know there are situations where there are "forced subtitles" such as someone speaking a different language than the native one spoken in the movie. i'm not sure if that's a seperate setting though.
