I would like to use the V.I VST Plug-In in Premiere Pro 1.5.
It doesn't show up the plug-in.
Any idea how to use it?
Could it be a problem that input is 2 chanels and output 6?
What must I set in Premiere?

You're right, Premiere Pro doesn't seem to support multichannel VSTs. It's weird since it does support multichannel audio and it does support VSTs, just not both at the same time. It's strange because I have got V.I to work in some two-channel VST hosts and I've even got an early prototype version of V.I working that records a 6-channel output file even within a 2-channel host!

I don't have Premiere Pro so I have no way of testing this, but you might try using the II VST plugin for generating surrounds if Premiere Pro recognizes it and allows you to treat the surround channels with VSTs. Another option might be to convert your stereo to surround outside of Premiere Pro and then import the multichannel file.

Steve.

Thanks for your answer Steve.

Your two other solutions are both working. I've already tested II before and Premiere is recognizing it as a stereo plug-in.
I also tried Bass Management from Kelly Industries. http://www.kellyindustries.com/bass_manager.html
This is actually for Nuendo, Cubase,.. but is also working in Premiere after renaming to BassManager6. 6 seems to be the number of channels for Premiere. (I tried that for V.I too of course, but doesn't help.) But now I have seen that Kelly Industries put a special Bass Management for Premiere on their site.

Don't know why exactly.
But these plug-ins will both have 5 input channels I think.

Yes, it seems to have something to do with some hosts not recognizing plugins that don't have the same number of inputs and outputs. It's unfortunate.

Hi Patrick,

I don't know if you're still following the forum, but if so, check out the new release of V.I. I've added three 2-in/2-out plugins that duplicate V.I's functionality in three channel pairs. These should work in Premiere Pro.

Regards,
Steve.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your tip. I have already seen before that you have created some new plugins and I have already tested a little bit. Seems to work with Premiere but till now it sounds worse than with V.I. But I will continue testing, maybe I've done something wrong.

Thanks again and regards
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Keep trying because the 2-in-2-out plugins are just V.I divided into three. In my tests with them, I did notice that some playing around with levels is necessary to duplicate that V.I "sound suspended in mid-air" effect.

Steve.
