An A/V receiver NOOB here, need some advice on hooking up my Harman Kardon AVR-630

See those multi-colored speaker plugs, I am pretty sure the one's who who have a receiver here know how to connect the speaker wires into them properly.

I am going to bi-wire, so I have 4 inputs in my speakers. + - for the woofer and a + - for the tweeter.

I don't have banna plugs to use with my OFHC oxygen free copper cables.
There 4 rows of of them, obviously 2 + 2 for the bi-wiring.

My question is how do I properly wire them into the harman Kardon AVR-630. Those plugs unscrew, but not completely I think. Do I just twist the wires around the screw and then screw the plug back down or what ?

ehh anywyas I think you have the right idea, if you any good with sodering I;d get some tin-lead or better yet gold soder and stck them on good, but I like overkill so it;s up to you

After you unscrew the terminals you'll see a hole in the back of the terminal (perpendicular to the direction of the input). You can thread the wire lead through this hole then tighten the nut onto the terminal to secure the wire.

I couldn't find a good picture but your receiver manual should have some help or diagrams.

Make sure the polarity of your speaker wire is correct + to + and - to - or your speakers will be out of phase.

Like KpeX said, the holes are under the binding post caps.
Would be better if you tinned...soldered the ends of your speaker wire.

OK I got my speakers, my Harman Kardon AVR-630 and the 55" plasma.

First I just wanted to hear some sound from the speakers, I hooked up one big floor stander into FL 'Front Left'. I removed the golden plates, bi-wired them using an OFHC cable and attached gold banna plugs from Dick Smith to the ends of the 4x copper conductor thick joined cord. 1 Banna plug per 2 cables for one polarity '+' and another banna plug for the other 2 cables '-'.

Hooked up my DVD player via optical SPDIF to the Digital-in optical of the receiver. It only played in Vid 4/ Optical input setting. And played horribly I turned the volume upto -90db and even to +10 etc. and the sound was no louder then a small pc speaker. There was no bass/dynamic in the sound, sounded like mono.

Anywhere I think I need to set some sort of SPL for the speakers and other stuff etc. I am really confused. I plugged another speaker into 'FR' and then only it worked with the other speaker not, making sound at all. So only one speaker could work at a time, if the other was unplugged.
suggestions ?

I think I am going to have to call some pro's to come set it up ! What amount of $$ am I looking at here ? Who can get this done in sydney, CBD/EST...
TGHis is serious pain in the ass and I haven't even gotten started. I need to run the cables to the rears somehow too. etc....

You can of course insert your speaker cable(s) into a "banana plug" first. Which can then be inserted into the "terminal post": -
