XViD and Adobe Premiere

Hi. Im trying to cut some scenes from an xvid video in adobe premiere but i'm having a weird problem. The xvid video plays fine in mediaplayer and even in the preview box of Adobe Premiere, but in the project box the video stays black, like I dont have the proper codec. I use Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 and the latest xvid codecs.
Where can i download a fix/plugin for premiere to support XViD, or what did i do wrong?

This is a known problem. I dont know if XviD's VfW decoder is the problem or Premiere's awful VfW implementation. AFAIK it can be fixed by letting DivX handle the decoding (either change the FourCC or enable "support of generic MPEG4" in DivX decoder configuration).

Anyway since Premiere is more a DV/Keyframe-only editing environment I'd say you're best of cutting the file in VirtualDub.

okay, i uninstalled my XViD codecs now, and let Divx deconder handel it, and it seems to work now. hooray :D
But does this affect the quality of my xvid movies? Or is divx just as good in decoding xvid as the xvid codec itself?

The output is the same unless postprocessing filters are activated.
