Reboot and more with RB-pro and CCE

Using 2000 and RB-pro (latest, but happened with previous versions and free as well) and CCE 2.50sp, I sometimes get spontanious reboots about midway through. The files were ripped in file mode with decrypter. I usually get get good results. This only happens sometimes and I think I can even redo the same film and get it to work (can't remember for sure). I also often get an error in Nero 5.5 when I try to burn the video_ts folder indicating that video could not be allocated. This doesn't always happen, but often. I can burn the same folders using Shrink and decrypter. Thanks

This is almost assuredly a system specific problem. CCE puts a lot more demand on your system than other apps... any chance you are overclocking your processor or your RAM?

I had the restarting error. It wasn't related to rebuilder, instead it is a function of Winxp SP2. The way to disable it is to go into the control panel and then the system menu. Go under the advanced tab and click on the startup and recovery settings button. Under that menu uncheck the box where is says "Automatically restart". That should take care of that.

As for the Nero error, don't worry about it. It's reffering to something in the DVD not referenced in the IFO. It won't cause any errors, just burn the DVD anyway.

I do have it slightly overclocked (like 5%). I will try it at stock speed and see what happens. Thanks for the info, 2000 has the same auto reboot settings, I will try and change it. Thanks.

At least with the error that is on the screen with auto reboot disabled you will be able to more likely troubleshoot the real problem.

With me the error went away completely. No clue why, but I haven't heard any complaints from the computer since switching it off.

Thanks, I wonder if the auto reboot is the prevent any over heating damage? Also, thanks for the new edition of RB; I like the iso option.

I have had a problem with my PC spontaneously rebooting during a re-encode as well. I dont have AC in my room and its one hot b--ch of a summer, so I am also concerned that it may be designed to prevent heat damage. Anyone know about this?

Reboots are caused by "Bugchecks". This can be hardware OR software specific.
Check your event logs for specific bugchecks. Typically I've found this happening on unstable systems. CCE is very cpu and ram intensive. I run almost a 100% overclock and had to do various stability tests to find the sweet spot.

It could be software, but I'd put my money on your system. A few good programs to check for stability are "Prime95 (http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm)" and "Memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/)". Also, Fiebre was correct in turning off the reboot as to see what error your getting.

Wierd thing is, I wasn't getting any error according to any logs I can see, but un checking the automatic shutdown box kept my PC from rebooting and I was able to get through an entire rebuild (about 6 hours). I will be letting my PC rest overnight just in case :)

If your computer restarted before you disabled the automatic shutdown, then you DO have errors in your event log. Go to Control panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer. Look in system events and app events. Unchecking auto shutdown is not a fix for your problem. The only way to know for sure is checking the logs as described above. The "Bugcheck" will have a number associated with it that you can use to search Microsoft's site. Like I said,it could be hardware OR software.
