Do you use FFDShow's audio decoders instead of CoreVorbis/CoreAAC/AC3Filter? Are they being actively developed? It sure would be nice to only have to install one thing on my system.

I do use them... I just don't know why ;)

they are actively developed and very powerful

i'm generaly using media player classic's audio decoders for ac3 and aac decoding at this time.
for vorbis, i'm preferred corevorbis filter.
but ffdshow's audio decoders -except vorbis tremor decoder- very nice too.
when tremor decoder's noise problem solved, ffdshow will be all in one solution.

I use ffdshow to:
1. decode aac and vorbis and then onthefly recode it to ac3
2. send ac3 and dts to SPDIF

"when tremor decoder's noise problem solved, ffdshow will be all in one solution."
yup, this sometimes is really annoying and then 'forces' me to use corevorbis.

I don't use them. I've had issues when encoding with helix producer. I only use it for vorbis decoding. But, this is old news (5 months+).

good news, new version of ffdshow use libavcodec for vorbis decoding.
celtic druid's new compile use latest cvs and include this function.
just choose libavcodec for vorbis at ffdshow audio codecs section.

Awesome, I'll uninstall all audio decoders asap. Thanks for the quick reply guys :).

[edit]I forgot to ask, I have a 4.1 speaker system, how good is FFDShow's downmixing/upmixing compared to AC3Filter's?

for 4.1 speaker system, you should choose "2/2 - quadro" at ffdshow audio mixer section.
and i think ffdshow's downmixing/upmixing ability as well as ac3filter.

Well, you still need splitters for the various containers out there !!!

But I heard milan already works on something like this... ;D

yes of course you right. but i was talking about decoding only.
ffdshow can decode many of sound formats and as you said before if ffdshow include required splitters, it will be perfect. :)

I think probably "2/2+LFE 4.1 quadro" is a closer match for what I have since 2/2 seems to me like it doesn't feature the subwoofer.

woofer has not it's own channel on 4.1 speaker system like 5.1 system. so choosing LFE is useless for you.

I see, thanks for the clarification.
