convert to MPG4

What is the best program available on Doom9 to convert DVD files or DV files on Hard Disk to MPG4. This is only for fun to send via IR to a Sony Ericsson phone.

Have tried a comercial prog. and selected mpg4 o/p. The resulting files end in .avi not .mpg4 but I think that they are mpg4 files but are not recognised on the phone as video. There is a test file on the phone already, this file ends .mpg4. Have tried renameing just in case it would work but no joy. Can anybody help.

phones dont handle advanced video features, so make sure you dont use stuff, like qpel, gmc, b-frames aso...
also make sure you use a very low resolution and bitrate

once you have such a stream (eg in .avi) you have to mux it into .mp4 or .3gp (depending on what your phone handles) eg via the mp4box tool (there is no such thing as .mpg4)

use search on how to remux from .avi to .mp4
