I don't have multiple DV cams yet, but I'm wondering how you handle colour matching when you are using more than one cam.

Do you hold up a colour card, if possible, film it with both cams and then adjust in in the Editor?

Or do you just film a white object with both cams?

Do the major editors allow you to adjust different colour balances from different clips?

well you can hold up a color card and use a waveform analyzer and vectorscope and do more color sweetening in post, it's best to use the same camera - i can't imagine doing a multicam project in Premiere (well i cant image doing anything with Premiere or Premiere Pro) - you can use a plug-in called excalibur for Vegas to do multicams or use Avid and the new Final Cut Pro 5

My interest is in live events so I'm interested in multi-cam shoots.

for live shoots what we usually do is shoot a color chart and use a vectorscope/waveform analyzer to calibrate all 5 cameras

... or use Avid ... I think Avid Express can't do multi-cam editing, right? Only Media Composer or better AFAIK

If you're using the same model of professional (calibrated) cameras then a white-balance on the same white spot will do (or using preset for all). At least this is true for standard broadcast recordings - professional post production color-correctionists may still disagree ;)

This should be working for consumer camcorders as well (using the same camcorder model) but I can't tell for sure.

Do the major editors allow you to adjust different colour balances from different clips? Every NLE program that I know (FCP Pro HD, Premiere(Pro), Avid Express) applies color correction seperately to single clips, so there shouldn't be a problem.

Avid Xpress Pro HD supports multicamAh, thanks - good to know!
A friend told me recently that it didn't. I thought he'd know because he is working with Avid Xpress Pro more than eight hours a day - but maybe he is using an older version or something?

I found this is a wonderfull solution to matching multiple camera's. It is simple and not perfect, but also easy and very effective. See this thread:

I've never needed to use the feature, but Pinnacle Liquid offers multi-cam editing.
