Is it possible with DVD Shrink?

There are a lot of titles unavailable on Region 1. If I bought a Region 2 release would I be able to make a Region 1 copy that would play on my DVD player?

Region is not a concern when you're making a backup using nearly any DVD backup program. Your backup will be regionless by default. However apart from that there is a concern that your DVD player will have problems doing the required framerate conversion of 25 fps (PAL) to 23/4 fps (NTSC), and there are other things to consider, such as how to reconfigure menus etc.

In short, I don't think it's possible to do all this in DVD Shrink itself because you pretty much need to reauthor the DVD entirely.

I know they're harder to come by in the US, but maybe you could enquire into a DVD player which is able to do the required conversion from PAL to NTSC signal to display on your TV. Either that or get a TV capable of displaying an NTSC or PAL signal.

Maybe someone could suggest a way to do it which I suspect will be a advance guide/solution.

Check out this DVD Player compatibility list (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php).

Really not in the market for another DVD player.

What would be needed for the PAL to NTSC conversion?

@SteyrAUG:
Well... I don't understand what you really want.
As far as see, your player plays only NTSC, right?
If you don't want to spend money on a newer standalone (able to play PAL & NTSC), then you will need to use a few tools, for instance TMPGEnc DVD Author or many others... you can find a lot of information about PAL/NTSC conversion in this forum, you just need to :search:
But if you just need to make a DVD back up, as already Backflip said, DVD Shrink will do the back up region free by default, you just need a on the fly decryption program like DVD43 (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd43.cfm) to make you driver region free while you make the copy.
I hope it help.
Greetings! :)

Yes you are correct I have a NTSC DVD player.

I already have TMPGEnc DVD Author. Is that all I need to do the conversion from PAL to NTSC?

If so I seem to be all set.

It's a lot more complicated.

Demux the vob files.
Encode the demuxed m2v files with TMPGEnc with NTSC settings
Apply pulldown flags if needed
Remux the audio with the new m2v files
Re-author with TMPGEnc DVD Author
Burn

You can retain subtitles if you use MuxMan to author instead of TMPGEnc, but you will not have menus.

You will have to create your own menus and chapters in TMPGEnc DVD Author, there is no easy way to convert from PAL to NTSC due to the button information.

Note: TMPGEnc is the mpeg-2 encoder. It is a totally different program than TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Expect to put in many hours of manual work per dvd (there is no magic one click tool). If you equate minimum wage to that, it may turn out that buying a $40 dvd player from Walmart or Target (like the CyberHome CH 300) that can play PAL might be cheaper compared to all the hours you are going to spend converting the discs. (I never can understand why the cheap players can do so much more than most of the expensive models.)

R2 DVD --> DVDShrink (make region free and shrink if needed) --> Burn --> Watch in PAL compatible player
