I'd go for seagate 7200.8 250gb or maxtor maxline III. Why?

1: 5-years of warranty tells something about reliability of components.
2: I work in RMA department of biggest computer equipment importer of finland, and I can't tell you numbers, but stay far from seagate 7200.7 or maxtor's diamondmax series, maxline series are ok.
3: Maxtor seems to be faster than Seagate, and Maxline III has 16MB of cache.

hey thank for your fast respons.i was thinking on getting seagate 7200.8,cause of bad reviews on the maxtor's diamondmax series.is maxline III very differant from diamondmax.

maxline is primarily targeted for light servers (thus having longer lasting components, reliability and longer warranty). i don't see any differences between the drives, the reported seek time is 9.3 in maxline vs 9.0 of diamondmax. The 7200.8 is a good choice between value and reliability. (today's saldo: total 18 failed diamondmax +9 and 10 drives, 9 failed misc samsungs and 1 seagate 7200.7 :D)

My friend had 4 120/160GB maxtor HDD failing in the same month. Makes me reconsider about maxtor :o

lol

Just this afternoon, a WS broke down at work. The 40GB maxtor only produce now DMA Read error and I can't recover files. Even linux can't mount it. So I got my 40GB maxtor backup drive to replace the broken one, but it failed too and doesn't even get detected post boot. DMA Read error.

Way to go maxtor!
