This has been happening a lot lately and with XVID has resulted in varying file sizes. I always target 700mb and XVID about half of the time ends up between 701 and 705 MB. These files I have to redo in Divx to get the right file size. Also XVID chooses much higher resolutions than Divx. Is the XVID codec that much better? For instance Team America ended up in an XVID file width of 608 while Divx chose 560. XVID also overshot by 1.5MB while Divx was right on. Can someone please help explain this to me.

Where are you getting this? In AutoGK or GK?

For AutoGK, it usually happens if the encode crashes in between or if you (by mistake) abort any of the intermediate steps (e.g: first pass, compressibility test etc) in between a full end-to-end encode. But since you said you keep getting this all the time, I assume that is not the reason.

For GK, it could be due to many reasons. Incorrect script in your .avs, codec conflicts etc. Just search the forum and you will get plenty of hits on this.

If your trouble persists and if you report back, :logfile:

I have been getting this problem only in AutoGK, I haven't even experimented with it in GK. It has been persisting for quite some time now, about 3 months. The biggest annoyance is the oversized files with XVID, because I then have to redo it with Divx. It does happen with both codecs, but Divx still seems to hit the target, while XVID does not.

Here is an example of the logs I've been getting which resulted in a 704MB encode when the target was 700MB.

I suspect some kind of DivX/XviD collision here. So try this:

1) Uninstall AutoGK, DivX, XviD, whatever other video codecs possible.
2) Reinstall only AutoGK & XviD (Just let the XviD bundled install itself).
3) Retry the encode.

Actually the reason I downloaded Divx was because of this problem, but I will try it and see if it works.

I find it strange to have actual number of frames more than in d2v file... What number of frames does vdubmod show when opening avs script from the last log?

I'm not sure exactly what an avs script is, I'm not a video expert by any means. If it's the AviSynth file, here's one of those: This was my 700mb rip of "The Mummy" which turned out to be 706MB.

LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~2\AutoGK\DGMPGDec\DGDecode.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~2\AutoGK\filters\autocrop.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~2\AutoGK\filters\RemoveGrainSSE2.dll")

movie = mpeg2source("F:\Ripping\The Mummy 2h\agk_tmp\The Mummy.d2v")
cropclip = autocrop(movie,mode=0,wmultof=4,hmultof=4,samples=10,aspect=0,threshold=34,samplestartframe=0,leftadd=0,rightadd=0,topadd=0,bottomadd=0)
fixed_aspect = 1.18518518518519
c_width = width(cropclip)
c_height = round(height(cropclip) / fixed_aspect)
input_par = float(c_width)/float(c_height)
out_width = 608
out_height = round(float(out_width) / input_par)
hmod = out_height - (floor(out_height / 16 ) * 16)
out_height = (hmod > 4) ? (out_height + (16 - hmod)) : (out_height - hmod)
new_aspect = (float(out_width) / float(out_height)) / fixed_aspect
autocrop(movie,mode=0,wmultof=4,hmultof=4,samples=10,aspect=new_aspect,threshold=34,samplestartframe=0,leftadd=0,rightadd=0,topadd=0,bottomadd=0)
LanczosResize(out_width,out_height)
RemoveGrain(mode=2)

and here's it's log if that proves useful at all. This is happening with pretty much every movie I do.

For some reason it keeps getting worse. Every single movie I do in XVID never hits its target file size. It's always a few MB over. I always get the same warning message before the second pass on EVERY rip that I do saying that the number of frames counted is different. This happens with both codecs, but Divx manages to compensate somehow and hit the right size. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME.

Would it make any difference if I were running Windows x64? I have more log files if anyone wants to see them, but they say pretty much the same as the ones posted above.

I meant when you open AVS script in VDubMod and go to File -> Information, what number of frames do you see there: correct or incorrect?

CCoug83

When looking at the script in VDubMod it says it has 179630 frames. The log however claims that the final output file will contain 163348 frames. So they are quite different.
