Is it possible to capture over hardware maximum res.?

Hello! I was planning to buy a new capture card because I've got some vhs footage I'd like to digitalize before it got damaged so, I've taken a look in my usual computer store and I've found they've got one that complies with what I was looking for, made by hauppage and its name is Wintv, I think. But there's a problem, it only can capture up to 320*240, and that's a really small res. so I'd like to ask u if is it possible to capture above that. Is it possible to bypass this hardware limitation, for example capturing at 640*480 (double)?

BTW I've been taking a look to the old capture guide made by doom9 and it stated "resolutions above ?320*240? tend to interlace", that wouldn't be a problem (I'd deinterlace it when encoding to xvid).. or would it lead to frames dropping?

Now, in PAL-NC, you can capture and preview at 756x576 (This is the highest resolution we can get from the chipset in PAL-NC). This will allow to see TV properly (no distorted image anymore!)

Woa! I don't need to pay more for FM support:
You can try to use the TV tuner audio circuit to try to tune FM radio (for those of you that can´t tune FM radio with your card.) FM will be FM mono but should work (do not expect a good quality)

And this is also important:
You can capture at full framerate in full screen

Even with the Hauppauge drivers, a WinTV should be able to capture 640, 704 or 720x480. The limitation is not in the hardware, but more likely in your capture application. Try VirtualVCR or the latest virtualdub beta.
