EDIT: Chapter creation and naming appears to work very well: -

I see... bummer!

I can see from the listed file types that: .mpg, .mpeg, .vcd and .vob are supported: -

But is there any reason why .m2v (and .m1v) can't be included too. Or does MP4Box.exe not support this yet?

mp4box doesn't support this format. Last night, I tried with vob file and it works like a charm.

Do you know whether .VOB or .MPG files containing subtitle streams, will work?

Rename your m2v/m1v to mpg.

No, subtitle import won't work.

@SeeMoreDigital:

If you use mplex this way:

mplex -f 8 -o test.mpg test.m2v

MP4Box will accept the mpeg file.

A windows binary from mplex comes with DVDAuthorGUI (http://www.videohelp.com/~liquid217/dvdauthorgui.pl).

I'm quite surprised at the difference in file size between the .VOB and .MP4 muxes: -

The problem I'm looking into at the moment is that I-O DATA's LinkPlayer and Buffalo's LinkTheater stand-alone player don't offer seamless .VOB file playback or direct navigation to .IFO files... Meaning users have to put up with lack of chapter navigation, poor/slow subtitle and audio stream switching and a nasty pause between .VOB files... So I was thinking, maybe an .MP4 mux would work better.

To begin with, a tool such as DVD Decrypter would be required to de-mux a DVD to it's elementary streams ie: video (.m2v), audio (.ac3) and subtitle (.sub), together with chapter information. And after converting the .AC3 audio stream to .AAC, use a tool such as YAMB to mux all the streams into .MP4

In reality I guess such a muxing tool, would need to offer the following: - .m2v elementary video streams
multiple .aac audio streams
multiple .sub subtitle streams
chapter marking

@SeeMoreDigital

Where do your *.m2v or *.mp2 files come from ?
If it is a mpg file why don't use:

MP4Box -add test.mpg#video test.mp4
MP4Box -add test.mpg#audio test.mp4 (or rename your mp2 to mp3)

and if not crate a mpeg file with mplex(or other tool):

mplex -f 8 -o test.mpg test.m2v test.mp2

Or how about a feature requests: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=84101

But you can achieve your goal simply with mplex.
You could ask for aac/vorbis import from AVI/MKV/(MOV) too.
Or avc import from mov or mpg(PS/TS). MP4Box can't support all.

Why use ac3 in mp4? If you want keep ac3 use mkv.

And I explained a few posts ago the reasons why I would like to mux .m2v streams into the .MP4 container (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=649696#post649696).

And the .MKV container is out of the question because it is not supported in stand-alone players!

I never said that only Mpeg 4 part2/10 and (HE)aac can used in mp4 files. Just wanted to know where your files come from and why not mux it to MPEG PS before muxing to a mp4 file.

Are you sure that your player play mpeg 2 video inside mp4?

A friend has a XORO HSD 415 http://www.xoro.com/ . This Player play mp3 inside mp4 files. Never tried mpeg 2 video.
