View Full Version : How can I De-Multiplex with Mplex?

I've got some mpeg-1 'vcd' standards videos, which have mp2 audio. I want to get out the seperate video and audio streams.

I am quite happy doing basic multiplexing using Mplex.
I know Tmpegenc with it's Mpeg Tools can do de-multiplexing - but I have a few videos where it won't do this, it produces short streams, maybe there's a bad frame in the video stream or something?

So I would like to try using Mplex to De-Multiplex these mpeg-1 files. I have looked through the help output in the command prompt window but can't figure out what the command should be. I have looked on the internet but without finding what to type. Thanks a lot anybody.

I don't know for sure.
I assume, that ProjectX can demultiplex mpeg1 files.

You can find it in Doom9's download section (Digital TV)
You have to install Java 2 Runtime Environment for this app.

I might be wrong.

Aha, thanks, I will try using this. I had seen this somewhere before but I thought I had to compile it or something
I have Java from Sun installed, I'll be glad if this works - another step forward, another obstacle conquered! :) I will report back

After a few uses of ProjectX I can report that it mostly seems to work on both mpeg1 and mpeg2! For those that it fails on I resort to Tmpgenc mpeg tools and recently I have been trying Dgmpgdec via Avisynth
Regarding Mplex, I just don't think Mplex can de-mux... :o but at least I have these other options so not a problem :)

I've found VCDGear (http://www.vcdgear.com/download.html) to be very good at correcting problem MPEG-1 files thru'.

All you need to do is, select the "mpeg -> mpeg" setting, with "Fix MPEG Errors" and create a new MPEG-1.mpg file....

TMPGEnc (or DGIndex - my personal favourite) should be able to de-mux the streams from the new MPEG-1.mpg file just fine!
