hello people !
i've spent all day installing video editing software and trying them out but i cant seem to find out how to simply render an avi file in reverse, backwards. the most forward and simplest program i've found to capture DVs is microsoft moviemaker, and it has simple/basic functions, so if anyone knew how to do it with moviemaker that'd be really nice. otherwise its not a problem, anyone just please tell me how u do it with your software, i'll either have it or be able to apply same method to other softw.

thnx a million !

Well, moviemaker is not exactly a good NLE program...

Good programs would be Premiere (Pro), Avid Express, Pinnacle Liquid Edition. In these programs it's very easy to reverse play a clip.

"Non Linear Editing" is a term that describes the digital editing process opposed to linear editing with tape machines. Linear editing means that you have to work linear, one cut/dissolve after the other. You can't juggle around clips on a linear editing system, you have to go from the beginning to the end.
With NLE programs you can start with the end of your clip, then proceed with the beginning, then take a new clip and paste it in between, and so on...

Linear editing systems are still being used mainly in the broadcast sector because they are fast. You can edit a 2 minute clip from 2 hours of footage in 30 minutes, ready to be played back during a live news broadcast. With an NLE system, even if you don't capture all of the 2 hours of footage, you still need time to capture plus you need time to play the results to tape again.

However, recording directly to HDD becomes more and more popular in the broadcast sector and therefore linear editing systems will soon cease to exist.
