8mm Cine capture problem

I am a newbie in this area of 8mm capture. I borrowed a Cine capture "box" unit from a friend and can see the file perfectly clear through the capture opening.

When I use my Sony Hi8 analogue camcorder to capture it, I get a capture which sort of flickers with bright light in the middle. I rojected it on to a small (8inches by 8inches) screen and tried to capture it. Again the same result.

Can analogue camcorders not capture these films? Will it make a difference with a digital camcorder please? I can try and borrow one in that case.

It sounds like a frame-rate diffential problem. Your film is probably somthing like 18 frames per second, while your camcorder has 30. I would highly recommend using a digital camcorder for this, so you can use a filter for VirtualDub, like MSU's filter, to remove the flicker without further quality loss (which you could hardly afford).

Changing camera is not the isuee, it's the projector. The best to get is the Sears Tower deluxe projector with speed control made by Bell & Howell. Do not get the dual format, buy one for 8mm and one for Super 8.

You can filter out some but not all the flicker in VD.

Get a different projector or slow the one that you have to 15 fps.

Digital cameras don't solve the problem, infact all of my telecine cameras are analog.
