avis with DVDx ?

im using DVDx for making mpeg files of DVDs, but i would like to make avi files, but even though the programm supports them, it doesnt really work
all that comes out are a few about 6min long pieces of the movie, and its not even the whole movie if i put them together
what am i doing wrong?

actually it does. i assume you get the whole movie when doing mpeg with the same source ?

please tell me what are the output settings so can have some idea what exactly you are doing.

actually i meant what was your settings for avi output.

from that though i have to ask, why do you have it set to custom chapters split ? try setting it to infinate or dont exceed 700mb etc.

well i have the same settings for avi output (yeah i change it to avi but thats all)
and i have to split chapters because mpegs are too big for a cd otherwise

dont use the cinepak codec. try installing Xvid or Divx or X264 or something else.

once you have then run DVDx and you will be able to select it from the dropdown list (the thing it says cinepak codec in).
then press the pass 1 settings button so you can set the codecs settings.

see how you go then.

hmmm when i used the cinepak codec it worked but awfully slow and the file is huge (700mb for 20minutes)

then i found a codec called DivX5.0.2. but the file had no sound and the quality sucked

yes. thats not the latest version of Divx for starters. go to the Divx section here for more information, i wouldnt use the beta at the moment though.
you can also try Xvid, again there is a section all about it. it even has a built in calculater so you can decide what size you want to output and it will give you the bitrate. if you are not as worried about size you could even just do a constant quant 2 encode which should look very good and be much smaller than cinepak was.

finally, why are you using 320Kb/s audio ? thats rather overkill IMHO. try dropping that down to something like 160Kb/s which should be fine for movies.
