burn baby burn (much alike dvd ripping speed)

i recently replace my 12x cd-burner with an 52x cd-burner (power caliburation failure, nothing to do with the media)

just like every other thread about max speed, i can't seem to get past 18x (according to blindwrite); i have a dvd-burner 4x\24\12, that burns a full cd-r in 4mins (hmmm... that doesn't seem right, my 12x only takes 7mins, 4mins isn't even near half of that)

my neighbhor's 32x, my sister's 48x, my friend's 40x(combo), my returned 24x, and now 52x, i can't ever recalled them being able to be used to their full potential (max speed)

all with dma enabled, i beginning to think nothing gets past 16x* (probability why dvd-burner are being capped at 16x)

or maybe it's my configuration



* even though i report a max of 18x doesn't prove nothing, my 12x went as high as 13.5x (in blindwrite), but came back down to 12x

In my personal opinion everything above 16x CD burn speed is crap anyways. For a minute less in burning time you lose a lot of CD quality.

I burn most CDs 8x anyways because it results in even better CDs (you can easily notice the difference in bad car CD players, for example).
8x takes ~10 minutes opposed to ~7 minutes with 16x, what do I care about 3 minutes? :)
