ffdshow - semi newbie question!

Using ffdshow as a postprocessor for my dvd playback, and also using the mpeg-4 codec for h264 playback, both from within Zoomplayer...

My question... is it possible when playing back mpeg4(h264) to not have ffdshow postprocess the output (just decode), but when playing back dvd have the postprocessors working, without any manual intervention? The reason for this is that I am getting much smoother results playing mpeg4(h264) output without and postprocessing... suppose it leads to the question of whether ffdshow can adapt its settings (resize, NR, blur etc) based on the file being played?

Have found the answer to this in another forum - ffdshow is able to do this...

"I had avoiding using ffdshow for TV, only becuase I have mpg files that I watch letterbox, and it was treating TV the same way and not doing 1.33.

Just the other day I stubled onto the autoload conditions in the Image Settings menu. There may be a better way, but I made a set of settings called 1-tv (1 so it was ahead of the movie settings...I'll explain). In there I set it to run when the file had a size of 740x480. Since the size live tv image size is unique, it only effects tv.

The reason I set named it 1-tv is because I had settings to resize movies (mpg, avi, and ogm). When it was just movies and tv, it seemed ffdshow ran the filters on a first-come basis in alpha order, so it ran movies 1st (on detecting mpg).

This is not adivce for all, but I hope it's a help to the few that have tried using ffdshow, and ran into issues w/ multiple file types."

I ahve taken this theory and set up a couple of profiles in ffdshow based on file types - set them to autoload - seems to be working fine. Happy bunny here, hope this helps someone else.

all my mpeg4's are h264 - so i just set it to respond to *.mp4. Dont suppose this helps if you have a mix...? But there is the option to set it to respond to a volume - this could work?

for now i set it to use no post-processing when playing mkv files
i don't know what they mean in "volumes"

i think by volumes they mean a certain drive - if all your h264's are on one drive you can apply settings.

are they the same as i don't really get how they work - what is the 16?

Well, what I would need in ffdshow are these two preset conditions:

[] apply if user is sitting on the PC chair
[] apply if user is sitting on the sofa

:D

- but having entries in Window's context menue that first apply the according ffdshow settings & then start the movie, is OK too. ;)
