View Full Version : buffer overflow #0004
first time i have ever had a buffer overflow with dvd-rb
was backing up Final fantasy
using dvd-rb in movie and menu mode
no reporcessing told dvd-rb to blank extras
film encodes ok but when it goes to rebuild it takes 10 mins for dvd-rb to get past the first section it blanked and about 30 secs into making the main vobs it errors with the overflow 4 error

turned on special error processing and it built the disc although i have heard that this way can cause issues on stand alones :(

I'll look at it. Did you set any options other than "Movie and Menus Only" or change anything in the segment editor?
nope just loaded it into dvd-rb selected movie and menu only
dont know if this is a factor but i used qmatop to tweak the ecl - am in the middle of doing an encode on same disc without qmatop
also using cg QM as well - dunno if that will help
CCE SP 2.67.0.27
dvd-rb pro 0.90a
qmatop v0.12b

That matters very much... please do the DVD with no external processing and let me know what happens.
By the way, for future reference to everyone. Any external modification of the DVD source or DVD-RB created files is "preprocessing" -- please make sure you state that at the beginning. I could chase these things in circles for months...
Since I've done "Final Fantasy" I have a feeling it will work.
do i need to put the QM back to encoder default aswell ?
because atm im using cg QM from within dvd-rb

The settings within DVD-RB are ok... if they fail I have to fix them. But is something external causes it to fail, I couldn't fix them even if I wanted to...
That's the reason I was asking all those questions. The error 0004 is never a bug in DVD-RB... it is DVD-RB telling you that you have a problem in your source. It only kicks out when DVD-RB is trying to reconstruct a GOP that is so ridiculously large that it throws its hands up and says "something is wrong here"

have tried doing this film again and im still getting the same error and thats with dvd-rb pro and cce 2.7
same happened with every rebuilder since 0.90 and with cce 2.6
errors doring the rebuild phase :(
jdobbs
18th May 2005, 01:04
Are you saying it worked before v0.90?
Carpo
18th May 2005, 06:49
sorry what i should have said is that its done this on 0.90 up to 0.92 - only thing im doing is using dvd-rb to blank the extras out (movie and menu mode) and cg matrix nothing else no pre processing
jdobbs
18th May 2005, 12:06
Could you save the project that causes this and send me the .RBF file ( dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com )?
Carpo
18th May 2005, 12:17
emailed as requested - prop is something im doing wrong but as i say i have done loads of films and this is the only one im getting issues with
think it does this if i use HC aswell i will run it thru there and see what happens
as a little test i have run this film thru clonedvd and vob blanker removing all that i didnt want adn the films comes out at 4.2GB dont know if this will help as i deselected everything in clone and vob blanker the same as in dvd-rb
so really the film doest need to be re-encoded
jdobbs
18th May 2005, 21:57
Have you tried doing it with "No Compression" in DVD-RB?
Carpo
18th May 2005, 23:59
funny you should say that as i did it earlier - i must admit i forgot all about that option and no it didnt work - it rebuilt the dvd ok - but it even rebuilt things i told it to blank out - so i had near enuff the same dvd in the out folder that i started off with in the IN folder :(
how about adding a feature that would allow you to select what vts files you wanted to encode like with the audio and subs
jptheripper
19th May 2005, 00:39
jdobbs has said he is adding a "don't encode" to the segment editor.
I imagine if you set the entire vts to "don't encode" this is essentially what you want

@carpo
Were you doing Final Fantasy Disc 1 or Disc 2 when you got the error? Also, how did you rip it to hard drive? ISO mode/mounted or File mode?
Thanks.

dvd 1
ripped to hdd, mounted the iso img in alcohol 120%, using dvd decrypter 3.5.4.0 and fed the vobs into dvd-rb

I'm pretty sure I've whipped this for v0.93. Read this link (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=658292#post658292) for more details.
This was a tough error to find -- hours and hours and hours. But it was worth it to make this go away.

well i havent had the same error (yet) because i havent had a chance to re-encode it yet
but the 100% video doesnt solve the issue as it still rebuilds the full dvd :(
i will try an encode of it over night and see what happens

I just experienced a Buffer Overflow error #0004. I'm using the latest version (pro 1.27.2), HC Encoder 0.22 with Multiple Encoder Processes enabled (4), bitrate distribution enabled for all VTS.
The DVD I was attempting to backup is Farscape: Starburst Edition season 1 Collection 3 disc 2b. I had no problems backing up the other starburst discs so far.
Heres the log:

Unfortunately that isn't an error within DVD-RB -- it is DVD-RB telling you that the source is corrupt. It is usually caused by a bad rip, but can also be caused by preprocessing (3rd party editing of some type). What did you use to rip the disc? It looks like it was possibly DVD Decrypter? If so, there are lots of discs that DVDD just won't handle. My recommendation is AnyDVD for decryption, but it isn't free. If you need a freeware ripper, try DVDFab Decrypter at this link. Hey Dobbs, thanks for replying and letting me know that it's not a rebuilder error. I'll try re-ripping the disc again. I use AnyDVD now...have been using it for a few weeks to date. I used to use RipIt4Me but have then switched.
I'll let you know if i have better luck with the re-ripping!
Once again :thanks: for the quick reply.
EDIT: The re-rip seemed to work this time as I didn't see a buffer overflow error message.
