For those of you who follow the work of Alexander Noé, you may be interested to know that he has released a new "beta" version of his excellent AVI-Mux application. Which can be found here: -

Earlier 'today'? :confused:
I installed 1.17 beta on 04/30/05 and been using it since then. But there was no news about it anywhere. I like AVI-Mux GUI, so I just happened to check the homepage, saw that a new version was out and installed it.
Note that the release is pretty unstable and I have had frequent crashes. Not anything major, since restarting the app and retrying worked for me.
I found that while splitting AVIs, the filesize limits are more strictly adhered to in this version as opposed to 1.16.11. I compared both of them side by side on the same files and 1.17 beta was more accurate. 1.16.11 always used to undersize by about 2 MB or so (with my settings).
yep ... i think it was released on the 26.04.05. this or that, it's good to see that this project is still alive.

@unskinnyboy
once alex showed me how to do 'frame-accurate' splitting but it was almost a year ago, so i should brush up my mind very heavily. as if sg like 'split-points' or 'timestamps' could have been defined ... or such

Yes, I know about that option. It is under the 'advanced' tab where you define split points by specifying timestamps (in the format hh:mm:ss.sss) or Chapters. It is a handy feature and I use it often.

Sadly, you can't use it to generate an Mpeg4 (DivX) .AVI from an .divx file :(

I know you can right-click on the audio and demux it seperately, is there a way to demux the video stream? (yeah, I know it's called avi MUX gui, but if it could do both it would be advantageous).

try avi2raw. it's part of the mpeg4iptools pack. iirc, mp4box also supports sg like.

(yeah, I know it's called avi MUX gui, but if it could do both it would be advantageous).The way I use AVI-mux to obtain an "video only" stream in .AVI is to put a tick in the "No Audio" and "No Subtitles" check boxes and press "Start" ;)
But it would be kinda cool it AVI-mux could be used to de-mux Mpeg4 to say an elementary .m4v stream.

1.17 bugfix release is up !
I had to replace the file I uploaded on Jun 30 because it had a bug in SSA identification.

As posted today on Doom9 News, AVI-Mux GUI v1.17.6 (http://www.alexander-noe.com/video/amg/#download) has been released.
Sadly, it is not possible to extract RAW video streams from MKV or AVI source files anymore :(
Although it is still possible to extract RAW audio streams :)
