I bought 50 Sonic DVD-R 4.7GB 1X-4X Bulk by shop4tech (Sondvdr4x/b-y) because I read a lot that they are the best things to get from shop4tech.
They burn, but I'm using about 4gbs of it and only about 3gb of the movie I authored actually played. Makes me wonder if the people who said these were good were just using a few gigs worth of the dvd or just doing data discs. Anyone else know anything about this?
If I burn it at a slower speed will it be better or any other tips you can give me? I used to always stick to brandname dvd-rs because they don't give me problems, but its been so many years now that I figured these noname brands were improved. Was I just wrong?

This is telling you that the discs are marginal and you need to not be careful when you use those discs. Anything you want to preserve long term should not be burned on them.
You can get better results by writing slower.

Stick with the good brands like TY, Ridata, Phillips, etc. The prices have fallen so much the good ones are only a few cents more than the cheapies.

Could you give me some links to places that you recommend for them?
I'm not at home, so I don't have the chance to try it out on my other DVD players, but the DVD-R didn't even want to run in my PC and it played halfway in my ps2. I am distributing to other people, so it's not enough that I can get it to run on one of my players, I want it to be able to run on as many dvd players as possible.

everything that's important are burned on g04, everything else not worth keeping are burned on crap and tossed when done
@Tapion DB
what exacting do you mean by "distributing"?

@dani82 - read your tag again "it's better to play dumb, than to act smart" ;)
I've had very good luck with
www.supermediastore.com
www.rima.com
newegg.com
fast service and in calif. Even though you may pay the sales tax, you will have a hard time finding any better deal (net cost) elsewhere.
supermedia is usually the best for prices, especially when they offer the extra discounts.

I have purchased many disk from shop4tech but I knew from the beginning not to get there sonic brand cheap means cheap. Also there matrix is also there brand and I used many of them but would found also they were not that good went to prodisc with azo dye from them and they work fine.
Shop4tech has better brands so buy them and stay away from cheap dvds
