OK, I know that dvdshrink will do the task. But other than this software. What are people using to fit their files on a dvd disc. Even after taking out the language tracks and many extras, I still cannot fit some of the movies on my discs without some small amout of compression. So tell me what you are using?
I keep reading about how great dvd decryptor is but it doesn't compress as far as I can see.
I havn't tried it, but stand alone dvd players won't play dual layer burns will they?

Thanks

The tools and processes described in http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdbackup-guides.htm are what most members are using. Have you seen it, yet?

Most people around here are pretty keen on the free programs, and so am I, why pay if you don't need to? BUT I have used one called DVD Fab, do a web search, and it'll come up. It's great for what you are asking- it has a command to burn main movie only, AND it will put an 8gb disc on 2, 4.7's. The menu works, and everything, it just breaks it at a point, close to mid-way. DVD Fab comes free for 30 days, so try it and see. You only need to pay in 30 days, if you like it. I use Decryptor and Shrink when I can, but have found myself using Fab quite a bit.

Another option would be to purchase a dual-layer DVD burner, but that would be foolish until the cost of blank dual-layer discs comes down. As it stands a back-up copy would cost almost as much as the original new, or more than a "previously viewed" one from a rental store.

I know...lol...isnt that funny how the technology comes in and the blanks keep it out of reach to use....i bought a DL burner before i checked DL blanks prices. Lets see, 79cents for a DVD -R or...5-10 dollars for a DL blank. Uh...think I'll break them down to two -R if i need to thank you very much.

I use Nero Recode. It allows you to select "copy main movie only". I've backed up nearly my whole collection all on 4.7GB DVD-R printables, all flawless!

-just my 2 sense

No wonder. DVD Shrink author is working for Nero Recode AFAIK.
