View Full Version : File size is way small

I've tried 4 times now to recode the Jungle Book 2 and always end up with an output around 3.95G. I have a 4.44G source after Remake (unfortunately couldn't squeeze out a little extra to avoid re-encode.)I used both 84 and now 85 versions, CCE trial 2.70.01.05 (2 pass). I tried using TargetSectors and no targetsectors. I used 3 step mode to make sure I got my 98% output ratio (4.36 / 4.44), however my output was never affected. It ends up being 3.95G. There is also no extra, accidental files in the source folder to throw the size off. Just don't get it. Never had a problem like this before.
Please help! It may be something really stupid I'm doing. But I've thoroughly checked my steps here.
Oh yeah... using the DGDecode.dll file
if you dont want the extras on there use dvd-rb to remove them - saves an extra pre processing step (which jdobbs want anwser as pre processing is 99% of the time the prob) if you do need to pre process use clonedvd - i havea few times and never have any issues with it

KamikazeCJ, with 98% compression, you are better off using a transcoder like DVD Shrink or Rejig... or so some would argue. However, I'm sure you can trim off enough bits using VobBlanker to avoid any increased compression at all. Just blank some extras, search for useless cells (warnings, logos, etc.), and change some of the less important menus into stills. Don't forget to strip extra audio streams.
About the undersizing, I remember reading about similar problems in this thread before. Was it unreferenced material? hmmm...

I already took out all the possible extras I could including streams. The rest I really want to keep. I didn't know RB does preprocessing. Is it the Pro version? Also never tried Clonedvd. I prefer to stick with same apps because I don't like the clutter of having different proggies doing the same things on my computer. But if I have to as a last resort...
ALSO I understand preprocessing can have adverse effects on RB, but size issues??

I did search for similiar problems and I believe the only thing I found was referring to having the correct path to the proper version of CCE set or something (if memory serves me). I don't thing I used the word "undersizing" in my search word though. I can give it a shot.

You really need to get over that. I mean that in the nicest way possible. You won't find the "best" way to do something unless you explore the options. It's a learning experience too.
IMO, VobBlanker is extremely powerful, and far from being clutter on my computer. Its blanking methods are far more efficient than the robust-by-necessity, popular, one click apps like Shrink. Blanking with VobBlanker involves acually replacing with an infinitesimally short (single frame) blank cell, not creating a long, but highly compressible replacement clip.
How big are the "blanked" VOBs created with Remake? I never really used that app (gosh I'm a hypocrite! :)).

Yeah, well its a pay program... If I remember correctly, the demo doesn't actually let you generate an output.
jdobbs did it the right way: get everyone hooked!
