I asked about this close to a year ago now, with no response. I'll ask again now, in case someone is reading who knows something about it.

In using the MSU deflicker filter with Virtualdub, there are three settings if one clicks on configure--Safety, Change Ground, and Blend Threshold.

What do those settings mean? How would altering any of them up or down from the default settings affect the resulting video? (Yes, I have read the description of the settings on the MSU web site (http://www.compression.ru/video/deflicker/index_en.html) , but do not understand them.)

There is a problem when using this filter at its default settings, of particular parts of the video becoming overly bright, washed out. (I've also had this problem with other deflicker filters, such as the one by Donald Graft.) Would changing one of the three settings above (in which direction) perhaps help that?

Thank you to anyone who can help with this.

With defualt settings, if there is any motion, there will be smearing and faded video. Set safety to ZERO and select the noral setting, the middle one.

Safety should be zero - It lowers the contrast when there are sudden changes to the picture, such as scene changes. Possibly designed for epilepsy safety.

Blend threshold blends the current frame with the previous frame. Use a higher setting for more De-Flickering, but it will result in frame blending during motion (Default is 6, but I've set it as high as 12, when I really want blending). Change ground has to do with scene changes, I believe. That's one to experiment with.
