Can't Capture Audio

Eveytime I go and capture something the sound/audio never captures, does anyone know why? I am sure there could be many possiable problems why.

most likely though you are neglecting to select "line in" for windows mixer recording source.

I am using an ATI, All In Wonder capture card.

I have tried capturing audio in many programs... Windows Movie Maker, Studio 8, ect. I have only been able to capture the video. No sound is being played either while the video is showing up when you are just watching it, pausing it, fastwording, or rewinding.

I have all my red/white/yellow plugs in the right spots.

I remember someone coming over to my house and was fiddling around with the speaker controls, he was able to get the audio to come on when playing back the vhs tape in your vcr on a program like Studio 8, I didn't try capturing it though so I wouldn't know if it works. He switched back our settings after so you couldn't hear nothing again though for some reason. Can't remember what.

drcl suggested a likely possibility. Here's a "how to," since you didn't respond to his suggestion:[list=1]
Open your volume control applet (method differs between releases of windows, but double-clicking on a speaker icon in the system tray can also work).
You're looking at playback volumes. Switch to recording options, through menu or buttons.
Look to see if "Mic" -- short for microphone -- is selected as your audio recording device.
If it is, select "line in" (or its equivalent, this varies by soundcard driver) instead.

that raises a good point.

you mentioned red/white/yellow wires which implies you are trying to capture from an external input. so i assume you have the red and white in to the line in(blue) on your sound device. i have never used an ati card but it shouldnt make any difference with reguards to the sound. maybe someone can correct me on this? does the ati handle the sound?

to simplify the situation just try recording some sound through sound recorder.

I am hearing talk about sound card. All I am using is my VCR, red/white/yellow plugs and my video capture card. Is it even possiable to capture sound that way?

I have captured video and audio from VCR to ATI AIW many times. Do you have this setup?? (ATI) (http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20020122/radeon7500-02.html). The other end should plug into your ATI card. And don't forget that the video card has to be plugged into your sound card (at least for the 7500).

Yes, that is my set up. I still have had no luck capturing audio but I am still looking for help.

Right now I have my Red/White/Yellow jacks pluged into Video Out in my VCR and on the other end have the Red/White/Yellow jacks pluged into the big purple head.

Then that long cord plug from the head going into my capture card from the back of my PC.

Still getting no sound, think I could get some help. It has been a good year now with no audio... -_-

Holy crap, still no audio. Your captures must be pretty boring to watch.

I think you're still missing the last part of my original post about making sure the video card is plugged in to the sound card. Go back to the "ATI" link I posted and look at the second picture. The male end (RCA) plug has got to be plugged in to your sound card, period. The other end plugs into your ati card (again, at least on the 7500). Forget about the other three plugs, you don't need them.

If you still can't get it to work, let me know and I'll scan the connection page out of the manual and pm it to you.

btw, what did you do with your manual :confused:

Dude, thanks for the PM but I was kinda pushing you toward looking at your manual. I now assume you don't have one, but the entire thing is available at the ATI site. I don't mean to be a smart ass, but you could have found this with a 5 second Google search. Anyway, look at the manual starting at about page 19 or so and it should answer all your questions.

And no, you don't have to take anything apart.

And yes, I will continue to help but I have to draw the line at taking a picture of the back of my computer so you can see the connections. That's a royal pain :cool:
