Hi everybody!

I captured the wwe raw wrestling show on my computer this week using the following settings : NTSC, 720 x 480, 8mb/sec, audio 256 kbps 48 000 khz.

After cutting the commercials, the lenght of the show was approx. 1h35 min. and the size of the mpeg2 was 6gb. I used dvd shrink to make it fit on a dvd+r. I thought that since the movie was only 1h35 min., there wouldn't be a lot of quality loss, but I was wrong. There were pixels through all the show when I watched it on my home dvd player.

Is there anything I did wrong? The movie was encoded once (when it had to be shrinked).

Last week, I made a backup of "saving private ryan" using dvd decrypter and then I shrinked it and put it on a dvd+r. "Saving private Ryan" last 2h45 min. ( a lot more than the wwe show)and I didn't notice any difference between the backup copy and the original.
Are there any explanations for that?

thanks for your time!

The quality of what you "captured" on tv was no where near the quality of the DVD you ripped, therefore the wrestling dvd was of inferior quality to the Private Ryan dvd you made.

There are many ways to help "improve" the quality of your raw capture. If you haven't already done so, you might want to look at the guides in the Capture forum. This (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=78797) is a good place to start.

I have been capturing off of analog cable for a couple of years, and it seems like no two captures are the same. All you can do is keep trying different methods until you find one that satifies you.

BTW, how are you capturing your data

Thx for the reply and for the guide, I'll have a look at it soon!

to answer your question, I use ads tech's "DVD express" to capture my files directly to mpeg2. I plug rca cables in the output of my vhs or home dvd player or satellite receptor and I plug the input in my dvd express. The dvd express itself is plugged to the usb port (2.0) of my computer. The capturing software that comes with dvd express is called "capwiz".
