I have a bunch of 30 min avi's (XviD). I want to put them on on a DVD-R in VCD or SVCD format. I can't figure out how to fit more than one on a single cd, like I can convert one small enough but I don't know how to make a SVCD cd with multi videos on it. Also, every time I encode the videos, they are extremly stretched. I am newbie to SVCD software, so any help on this would be great. Thanks in advance for any posts.

Is it a cd or a dvd you want to put the files on?
I would look at the resolution of the original file/s (Avicodec or Gspot, both free) and then decide on my output resolution. I would stick within the dvd compliant specs ie 720x480/576 or 1/2 D1 (352x480/576). Using 1/2 D1 or full D1 will give you more options ie allow you to use more bitrate for video/audio.Their are excellent guides on this site that give detailed steps. You can also check here in the convert or guides section www.videohelp.com. You will find good and free all in one converters on this site and the site I mentioned above in the tools section.

I used GSpot, that res is the original res, and I want to put them on a dvd-r because that way I can fit more avi's on one cd, you know?

If you only want to put the avi's on a dvd burn them as a data cd/dvd.

hmm, how can I explain. I have 5 tv shows I recorded, comercials cut. Theya re about 42 min long. They are currently all in XviD, however, I want to put them on a dvd-r in SVCD (or VCD) format so that I can watch them in my dvd player. But I want all 5 on 1 dvd.

Not straightforward with DVD2SVCD but possible.
Use DVD output mode and select "Don't make images" in the image tab.
Check "advanced" in the DVD2SVCD level dropdown box in the Misc tab.
Set the disc size using the formula (4464 / no. of episodes).
In the Frameserver tab, select CVD output resolution.
Unless they have AC3 audio ensure "Do not convert audio" is UNchecked in the audio tab.
Select Anamorphic 16:9 in the Aspect ratio box (conversion tab)
Don't be alarmed be the tall, thin preview pane.
Batch convert your AVI's as per Q73 of the FAQ.
Use a DVD authoring software such as DVD-Lab to compile a DVD with the muxed *.mpg file from each output folder.
The result will not be technically standard compliant but 99% of DVD players will play it.
Good luck.
If you do not wish to go to all this trouble, the only other way I can see is to join all the AVI's in VDubMod. Let DVD2SVCD create a DVD from the joined file and in the image tab set fixed chapters to 1800 second per chapter (=30 mins). That way each episode would have a chapter stop. However this method relies on each AVI being exactly the same length or the chapter stops will go out by a few seconds.
EDIT - oops, just read your avi's are 42 mins long not 30. So 2520 sec/chapter then!
