So I bought this Muse (http://muse.mu) DVD off ebay. The auction said it was 'Region Free'. So I thought, great. It came from overseas somewhere. Then when I pop it into my dvd player, it doesn't work. DVD player returns an error something like 'Please Check TV System' or something. I tried this with 4 different dvd players. All but one did the same thing. One half way worked. It would play, but the video was all messed up and would jump around. It plays fine in my computer though. So even though the box says 'All Regions'. I think this is a PAL dvd.
This is a DVD-9. So I will need to shrink it down to fit on a DVD-R. So how would I go about doing this while converting to NTSC along the way? Can I still retain all the menus and stuff?
Thanks,
Tater

Pop it into your DVD-ROM drive and decrypt it using DVDDecrypter. It should say what kind of protection it encountered in the log, and whatever it is will break it. The VOBs DVDDecrypter puts onto your hard disk will be fully region free.

Once it's on your HD, the conversion to NTSC can be as simple or as difficult as you want (simple being one clip and one audio track, if you want to do that, you can separate the streams with DVD Decrypter on the fly and re-encode the video to fit after).

DVDDecrypter already says the dvd region free (it shows all region codes 1, 2, 3, etc), and there is no protection. Even though its region free, can it still be PAL?
My friend had an all region dvd player and it worked in that. Will I still have to go thru the long process of converting PAL -> NTSC?

The TV system has nothing to do with region coding whatsoever. Even within one region, you might have different TV standards - e.g. R2: Japan (NTSC) and Europe (PAL).
So yes, if the DVD is indeed a PAL one (what does it say on the back of the box, btw?) and your setup is incapable of handling this, then you will have to convert it to NTSC. I also noticed the site is offered in a UK and a US version, so perhaps they offer their dvds in two different formats?
Check your DVD player setup first, though - does it have an entry for "TV system" or sth. similar? Set it to NTSC (not to "auto") and see if that helps. Some players might have a switch on the back. If you post the model of your player, somebody might have more specific advice.
