Hello all, this is my first post so i want to tell you all that this is the best site ever. Keep up the good work.

Well, basically i have been around the forum to gather some info and up to this point i can succesfully back up a DVD with no prob.
But i'm very new when it comes to .avi files.

I have this "Foreing" movie in .avi format and the audio is in Korean.
It does not have any subs, but what i want to do is to be able to watch the subs. Is there a way to extract the subs out of the file, also if not, can you add subs to it. I don't speak korean but i wonder if there is a program that will automatically add them for you.

Now i also want to burn this movie in a DVD so it can be played in Stand alone DVD players. And yes, i have read some articles about that. So far i came accross a program called: TMPGEnc that converts the file .avi into an MPEG2 file, correct ?.
I also read that you have to extract the audio for this type of file if it's going to be used in a DVD, how do i do that...?
And i also have to reauthor the file as well to generate extra files needed for playing on a DVD. DVDAuthor seems to be pretty good. CCE is another program reccomended by this site, but for what i read, it seems to be pretty expensive. Is there a freeware program...? and where do i get them...?
Is there a guide for that...?
I don't mind a step by step course...lol

But i'll leave it to the pros. in this site. I would appreciate any help given, and if you can, tell me some software that i'm going to need for this kind of task. Oh i almost forgot. Please tell me where can i find i guide for such a process.
Please don't be too harsh on me... (^ _ ~)v

you can't extract what isn't here, you can add subtitles to just about anyway, as long as you can locate them (by that, i mean download); good luck finding subs to a foreign film

well,a bit blunt but i appreciate the answer. When u encode a movie into AVI. doesn't it keep all the original stuff from where it came from, i mean i know it is compressed but shouldn't there be a pointer of some sort to determine if i could get the subs?. I have been doing more research and i finally got my hands on Gspot. I loaded up the file and it was encoded on Xvid originally. It contains an MP3 audio track
and apperantly it had some Nandub process as well.

You answered half of the questions.
Please point me in some direction.
What should i do about this file to encode it to something playable in a DVD.
What software would i need...?

i "downloaded" them and yep, they are alright. (^___^)v
Now how do i put them in the movie...? But most of all, how do i "make" my new movie with the subs...?, Please refer to Reply above.
Thanks. (> '-')b

You appear to be treading on thin ice. Better read the Forum rules again before you go much further.

Just a suggestion for what it's worth. ;)

SallyDog has given you a gentle pointer to the Forum Rules, you can also take a look at the Announcement (http://forum.doom9.org/announcement.php?s=&forumid=6/), located at the top of the Newbies homepage, for more information. Not only is it against Forum Rules to ask for help on obviously downloaded files, it's also forbidden for members to issue helps on these files. The search button is a fabulous tool.
