I have started a new forum to discuss everything, basically. It even has a video section, as well as forums for politics, religion, car repair, trivia questions, even raising children ;)

The membership is made up in large part by current Videohelp members so there is a good talent base for video issues should you need help.

My Website (http://convopit.net) has a better description of the forums we currently have. We are primarily a social forum and aren't interested in competing against places like Doom9 or Videohelp. We wouldn't stand a chance :D :D This is "another" forum the good members here can go to kill some time, talk about whatever is on their mind, get some good advice about rewiring a house, or rebuilding that small-block Chevy :D

even tho i not a fan of new forums. reading couple of them is already almost a full time job. i think i have correct/ask one thing:
capmaster said 115 registered members and the site says currently 118.
wouldn't this bring the daily average post per user a bit down...?
on the other hand, day 1 it perhaps had only 1 or 5 registered members ;-)

Actually, our busiest time of day is 9PM.

Not to sound rude, but I am not a big fan of forums where you have to register to even see the forum topics. I think I'll pass I wasn't either. I started it out being open, but forum trolls made it necessary to go private ...with the admin-only activation, and search engine bots ate up about 250MB of my bandwidth the first week we were online. And the members like it better having it closed like that. Since we're not a tech forum like Doom9 or VH I didn't see as how we were depriving anyone ;)

I do have a top-level page HERE (http://convopit.net) with a list of the forums we have, and you can get an idea of the topics.

Sorry to hear you won't be giving it a try.

(BTW Neuron - Small world. I'm originally from the Chicago area. I grew up in Niles ;) )

I guess I missed your point. Was this a text file you were posting?

With this file you can make crawling bots not going in your forum. I use it to prevent them to go in my gallery.

how someone can be banned before register in your forum?!?!?:rolleyes: Probably a block IP ban I have in place for some trolls we were having trouble with. Before doing a ban like that I check my member IP database to make sure nobody is within that range.

Since you hadn't registered or posted yet, I had no way of knowing. And the block ban was necessary. Once these same trolls utilized the then 3-bad-password lockout hack we had to systematically disable member after member, just as a nuisance. They have tried other tricks. Childish, but annoying just the same.

PM me your IP or range of IPs if dialup and I'll modify the block ban so you can get in ;)

Nope. .htaccess is server related. Bots fetch that file to see "their permissions". Normal users are unafected. Also, you can't match all bots with .htaccess.

Put it in the root of your server.

This was badly needed since I would have lost lots of bandwith if each bot download all my 3GB galleries :scared:

I had the same thing with googlebots. We were a new forum, yet they managed to chew through 240MB or so of BW in a couple days:(
