I have used Adobe Encore to author a project to a folder (it's too big for a disc - 4.8GB), and I am trying to use DVD Shrink 3.2 to shrink the authored files down to 4.3 GB to fit on a disc, and I keep getting this error.

The funny thing is, that I was able to do this fine a few times last year and it worked perfectly (I just haven't needed to do it for a while) but now it won't work! Suggestions? I don't know how it can "fail to open" the file, because it exists and isn't read only!

try to use DVDFAB to write the VIDEO_TS.IFO for you. DVDShrink is strict with .IFO files. If it's not compliant then it won't open. Reasoning behind this was if it wasn't this way then people would be saying dvdshrink screwed up playback of this dvd blah blah blah.

Well, that didn't work - does this software actually shrink it or just back it up?

Well? Anyone here know? Why did DVD Shrink work before with Encore and not now? It's the EXACT same process!

Well,It seems to me that if dvdfab also has an issue with this file, then maybe its NOT a problem with shrink. You could test this by trying another movie with shrink.
I do have a suggestion. try and use an older version of dvdshrink. I read somewhere that the older versions werent as picky with the ifos.
also, you could try dvd43free,another free program.

I already tried and older version of shrink: V3.1
That's the version that worked last year, AND I have tried authoring the DVD folder several times now.
I will try that "dvd43free" you speak of. Thanks.

I should have been more clear....basically dvdfab can create a VIDEO_TS.IFO if it's missing. IIRC this is for main movie only. No menues or extras etc. But I'm guessing the movie you author in Encore has menues and all that.
