Hi,

I bought 15 m S-video-Scart cable with audio for connecting PC and TV.

1. I connected it through Svideo conector on PC and Svideo on TV - in this case it is working fine.

, but

2. If I connect it through Svideo on PC and SCART cable on TV it is working, but the picture on TV is only Black and White !!! Can anyone tell me why ? What could be wrong ?

PS: The cable in 1. and 2. is the same - 15 m S-video-Scart cable with audio, only on the TV side is removable connector.

Thank you,

Hi starec,

Many TV's fitted with 1No scart socket don't accept s-video signals. Even when using an scart to s-video adaptor!

However, if your TV is fitted with 2No scart sockets, usually the first socket is RGB compatible and the second socket is s-video compatible.

Cheers

Yes, this most definately sounds like your TV's SCART socket can't handle s-video. S-video through SCART uses the same pin for luminance as composite video with normal connections, therefore a TV that can't handle s-video this way displays only the luminance (and not the chrominance - the colour) - hence the black & white picture.

There is often a separate selection on the TV for s-video, especially notable with Sony TVs - pressing the AV button on the remote (or the set) often cycles through "AV" (composite), s-video and RGB, or something like that. Does your TV do this?

Hi,

Thanks, I just wanted to know ... SCART conector at the end is removable, so through S-VIDEO it is working fine.

Bye,
