Seems a shame to drag this thread up again but I'm getting this same problem. I've tried all the suggested fixes from this thread, but to no avail. I'm using Rebuilder 0.89 and have tried several versions of CCE (2.66, 2.67, 2.70, even rolled right back to 2.52 at one stage but no joy :()

Problem Detail

I essentially have the same problem with the 'Encoding resulted in no .M2V file' and then the abort. However, upon retrying the segment that fails, sometimes it'll work again. Sometimes it won't. Once I've had a full DVD encode but on the same settings others wouldn't do it. I've tried at high pass numbers and low pass numbers for CCE. I've tried with high and low VBR_Bias and high and low Quality_Prec. I've tried it with 'steal space from extras' mode on and off and at all levels. As I say, I've also tried the fix mentioned at the start of this thread. Guess that's what the 5-day doom9 cooling off period is for, hey... :D

Anyway, here's an example logfile. For the purposes of completeness, this was using CCE SP (Trial) 2.66.01.07. As I say I've used several other older and newer versions. All give the same problem. Careful, it's pretty big. I wasn't going to give up on this one ;)

I think that's what's known as a mess. Anyway, as you can see, there's a lot of missing frame errors too but it watches fine. Whether that's your checks or the actual frames that are off kilter I don't know. And as you can see, lots of instances of the missing m2v problem as well. I just kept clicking 'OK' to the 'Encoding resulted in no .M2V' error messageboxes and then hitting Encode again and resuming from where I'd left off.

Sorry for the enormous post, but I hope you appreciate the completeness ;)

Is there a possibility that you might be overclocking your computer? The fact that you are getting this on versions other than 2.70 makes me think that your system may not be stable. I know what you're thinking "But it works on other software!" -- but nothing else even comes close to the processor/memory strain that is used when Cinemacraft Encoder is running...

I'm not, no... good thinking though. CPU is running at basic FSB and multiplier, and the ram's running at normal speed as well. Hence my confusion. I would have expected CCE to not give me any problems given my specs.

I also forgot to mention, I did wonder whether it could be a cpu issue so I've tried it once or twice having shut all other programs down but to no avail.

What really gets me is that on my old machine (at far far lower specs) DVD-RB was working perfectly (albeit considerably slower). But the simple answer to your question is no, I'm not overclocking my pc :)

I should also mention that this is a fresh install of XP, done about 8 days ago.

This may or may not apply in your case. There's an easy way to test that your comp can handle the stress of encoders such as CCE or HC. Use the torture test in Prime95 (http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm). Let it run for an hour or two, if it errors out you're in trouble. If you're bored you can watch your temps go up with SpeedFan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) :)

Hey guys,

This is my first post ever so please let me know if I am missing anything.

I have the complete 3rd season of 24 Hours.

Each DVD was crashing DVD-shrink. So I thought, ok I am going to give DVD-Rebuilder and CCE/HC a try.

Here are the two platforms I have tried :

Athlon 2500@3200, 512 MB RAM

Intel P4 3.0, 2 GB RAM

On both platforms this did not work (missing M2v files message):

- DVD Shrink 3.2 (unexpected error)

- DVDREbuilder Pro 0.92 + CCE SP 2.7.x (tried 2 different version of CCE SP 2.7)

- DVDRebuider Free (Several versions) + CCE SP 2.7.x/CCE SP 2.6X (again several different version of CCE)

On both platforms this works with some crashs. It crashed but the M2V file was created. Again this was repeated on both platforms.

- DVDRebuilder Pro 0.92 + CCE SP 2.50

On both platforms this works flawlessly

- DVDRebuilder Pro 0.92 + HC 0.14 (Best mode)


I believe but I am not 100% sure (it's hard to keep track of everything) that all crashes happened at the same place consistently.

Another DVD that was crashing DVD Shrink is "The Terminal". I used DVD-RB + HC successfully.

In the mean time, I did other backup with success using DVD Shrink.

Let me know if you want more information. Or if you want me to try something else.

Oh, I almost forgot, I ran CPU burn for a couple hours on the overclocked CPU without problem. I also did a memtest on the Athlon for over 12 hours (50 passes I believe) without a single error.

I did not test the P4. But it's not a overclocked machine.

I'd suggest you set the Athlon to its rated speed and try it with CCE and see if it works. Not completely sure what you mean by "crashes" but that's something that never happens. I'd even guess that Shrink may start working too.

And by the way, I just ran Prime95 on the P4 and it failed.

I guess, I gotta get my computers straight.

CCE SP 2.50 was actually crashing. "can't read memory address thingy"

You were right. I tried on another computer with success, same software, same DVD.

So I have spent the whole week-end tweaking BIOS, Memory and what not and the other two computers (AMD Athlon 2500 and P4 3.0B).

Everything is working fine now.

So to anyone who is having the missing M2V file thing, try Prime for some time (the developper recommend at least 6 hours).

See if you pass that test, if you don't then you know you hardware is having some problems.

has anyone else had this error message when using hc encoder? all the threads i've searched on refer to a potential cce 2.70 problem.

i've just tried to encode The Day Today R2, which contains ANGLE or INTERLEAVING according to the rebuilder log, and i got the error at 99.3% of the encoding stage. this disk has a single VTS of 7554MB and it got as far as segment 155 (the last one of the set!). there is also a file in the D2AVS folder called VI0100008023.VOB.

on the "input statistics" line in hc 0.15 it counts down from 10 to 0 and says "ERROR, can not process AVS file". eventually dvdrb comes back with the "missing d2v file" message.

the AVS in question contains the following:-

I've just tried The Day Today again with RC3 to see if the ILVU corrections solved this problem, but I got the same error described above.

I've noticed that the equivalent D2V for the very last segment is inconsistent with others that encode without a problem. At the end of a normal D2V I can see the end of the file looking something like this:-

Also, what happens if you add the "9" and the "FINISHED" manually to the file?

CCE writes the .vaf, then errors out on the second pass.
Opening the .avs with WMP Classic, and the file plays.
The m2v is not created.
It's a 22,000 frame clip.
Deleted the .vaf, no difference.

Have you tried to encode that segment using RME? Just a test... maybe the issue is on CCE!?!?

Normally when you have these kinds of problems, it's a CCE issue (usually overclocking). The only exception I know of was when it was ILVU and it was the last M2V of a VTS, and that was fixed with RC4.

Playing the V01000900002003.avs file does show it to be the last part of the movie, as the end of it has credits.
I'm quite sure I used RC4 for this encode. Will try HC and see what happens.

RC4 has produced an identical D2V file as RC3 for the last ILVU segment, so I'll try the previous suggestion of manually completing the missing info and see what happens.

OK, I added 9 and FINISHED to the last entry in the file and it has encoded with HC. The M2V file plays back fine, and I'm just waiting for the rebuild step to complete.

I ran the whole thing again through RC4 which deleted the contents of the work folder.

Well, it finished with HC, seems to play ok with Power dvd.
I'll give CCE another go tonite, see what happens.

Tried CCE again, same results as the previous try.
Both D2v files end with a "9" and "Finished".
This was a part of a 3 movie batch, the other two finished fine.

I've tried dvdrb rc4.1 with HC encoder and got the same error as before. However, I have also tried processing the same project using rejig (the speed is awesome for testing) and found this processes the D2V file without any problems!

I have no idea why HC appears to need the 9 and FINISHED to be present in the D2V, but I thought I'd better mention this latest finding to save jdobbs' sanity :)

Here's hoping someone with a bit of knowledge can help me understand what's going on.

Actually it's not HC -- DGDECODE and AVISYNTH need it first... ReJig doesn't access the D2V file. In ReJig mode the original MPEG stream is demuxed and ReJig is run against it directly (ReJig is a transcoder).

Yes, the problematic D2V was the last on the disk. Sorry for the long delay, I see from the new changelog SDragoon has moved things along since your last request for info.

I tried rc5 late last night but had the runtime error 52. I see you've addressed this already! Unbelievable... when do you sleep?

I've just ran prepare with rc5.1 and the last D2V now contains 9 and Finished at the end. :D I'm equally excited and in awe, thanks so much. I'll let you know when this finishes encoding.
