My method for backing up is this. DVD Decrypter > DVD Shrink > Copy to DVD. This works well for me but am I going the long way round?

you don't need to use both dvd decrypter and dvd shrink one after the another (maybe for the new dvd protection), just decrypter -> copy2dvd or shrink -> copy2dvd

I thought you need shrink to fit it on a 4.7 disk?

Yes,you need shrink,or any other transcoder to reduce the size to fit a 4.7 dvd-r.

you dont always NEED dvddecryptor(dvdd),for MOST movies. SOME newer movies that have arccos protection will require dvdd.

Personaly,I preffer to use DVDD anyway to get the movie on my hard drive. that way I can take the movie, and put it away, and then transcode at my liesure. and if,for some reason the transcoding process or burning doesnt work,I still have the movie on the HD and the process of re trying will be faster and easier.

So,even though you dont NEED to use DVDD with shrink, what you are doing is exactly what I would recomend.
