I just bought one of these.. cap directly from ntsc component to DV or AVI...(or mpeg on the fly with software encoding, not sure why do it that way...)

Anyone have experiance with this ..??

I am just looking for anyone that has used this device.. i have not installed it yet since my cpu and dvdr drive is on backorder. My first few projects are all ready to go though. I am sure lots of people (relations) will want me to transfer their stuff to dvd now..lol.

When you do get it working, try something for me. Connect up to a nice clean black video source such as a DVD stopped in the complete dark, or a decent quality STB (pay or fta) that leaves its video out enabled when its off (so its a nice black image with syncs) and then capture a few frames via the CX side (using a lossless codec such as HUFFYUV), not the DV side. Then open the capture with virtualdub(mod), add the brightness / contrast filter (set brightness to +30%, leave contrast alone) as well as the threshold filter and set the threshold at say 103 (you may have to jiggle this a bit). The idea is to enhance any low level noise to make it obvious to get an idea as to the 'quality' of the design of the card. If you take the threshold too far, the pic will go complete white. The idea is to have it on a knife edge just before it goes completely white to bring out any background noise. Post the result so we all can see it.

im not sure what lossless i can cap in.. i know it will cap in 10mbit avi.. not sure what codec it uses. I am going to play around with this a lot though. thanks for the suggestion.. that sounds like a nice way to test. I dont have a dvd player though (use my comp).. I will have to figure out where to get one.. maybe i could use the vcr blue screen..hmm...........:D

I have yet to do the BLACK screen test.

I did however capture my wedding video...outstanding. I used the uncompressed avi cap.. 28.xx mins to about 28.6gb of space. NO DROPPED FRAMES. It took me about 10 attempts and 2.5 hours. I found out my MOBO utilities that monitor system temp (CAME WITH MOBO) were causing a crash--also my video drivers needed an update!!! After a couple of system freezes, crashes, and blank screens i got it all working then the capture had overdriven and distorted sound--very touchy controls!! The meters in the adcap program are NOT acurate whatsoever.. that is somethign they need to work on! I did not test capturing in any other program like virtual dub. I know the firewire will cap in anything but i think analog has to use the turtlebeach programs. All in all it is a decent product for the money spent.

A little tip: use HuffYUV and YUY2 colorspace for lossless captures, you'll save lots of space.

He could also use ffdshow in mjpeg mode with q=1 and take less space (if space is an issue) and probably not be able to pick the difference between it and huffyuv.

YOu have to capture in the turtle beach cap program for the analog inputs (tmk).... besides I invested in a 200gb sata drive JUST for the capture projects!!! space is NOT an issue!!!
