View Full Version : Joining VOBs larger than 1GB

I am trying to use Vobedit to join together several 1GB vobs (final file size 3GB). At first I couldn't get it to work at all but after renaming the files VTS_01_001.VOB etc (seem to need 001 instead of 1)it seemed to be doing the right thing. But when it finished I was left with another (new) string of 1GB files.

This is all being done on a 20GB NTFS volume with plenty of space.

Can Vobedit make VOB files larger than 1GB?

Thanks
David

Open a DOS command window and use the DOS copy command with the /b flag:

copy /b file1+file2+file3 resultfile

Use ProjectX, load all VOBs.
If needed you can remove any adds.

just out of curiosity, why would you like to join them?

Thanks for the tips.

The main reason is that I found a guide which described authoring beginning with a single vob file (which then created the VIDEO_TS.IFO/BUP files and the VTS_01_0 files) as well as splitting the vob file. I hadn't seen another way of making new VIDEO_TS files for a single PGC. I'm sure it is just as easy with a split file if you know how, but at the moment I am relying on step-by-step guides to do anything.

THe second reason is that I want to be able to watch vob files larger than 1GB on my PC. Is there an easier way to do this?

Thanks
David

fair enough. now it makes me wonder, what are you going to do with the files? maybe there's another guide that's even 'easier'.

at least i just use a sw dvd player to view split vob files, but that requires the ifo's as well...

I just want to author a simple DVD with the main PGC, no menus. I keep making DVDs that play on the PC but not the standalone player.
I'm sure the problem is the VIDEO_TS and VTS_01 ifo/bup files I have made with ifoedit, because there is no problem with DVDs burnt using DVDDecrypter iso mode (same burner, media, and standalone).

I have the original ifos, as well as the VTS ifo produced by DVDDecrypter in ifo mode.
Can I just sub in the VTS ifo from the main PGC I have decrypted? Should I use the one DVDDecrypter produces or the original?
What about the VIDEO_TS files - are the originals any use to me if I am only ripping the main PGC VTS? I'd assumed I need to make one from scratch.

Cheers

Try Vidomi - in encoder mode you can load all the .vob's, then under Options, General Options, select "Ignore all settings and use MPEG copy code" and click Start. It will merge them into a single MPEG-2 file without re-rendering, it's very fast and there's no quality loss. It should load into whatever program you were using as-is; the most you'll have to do after that is change the extension to .vob.

(When installing Vidomi be sure to uncheck "Install XviD" as it uses an old version.)

Filemerger (free). Easy to use and has given me good results, no re-encoding.

Thanks every1, especially neuron2 - that's the sort of answer i really like to know about! I assumed there was some sort of begin/end structure which would prevent simple joining.
