i have this amazing movie 42K. the problem is, the DVD version adds these horrible narration parts from michael madsen. i want to cut out those scenes entirely. i have decrypted the dvd to my harddrive but i dont know what to do next......anyone got a walkthrough for doing this kind of thing?....

Cuttermaran is pretty nice for editing, and it doesn't re-encode so it's fast and there's no loss of quality. Vidomi can be used to edit and encode directly to XviD, and it's really easy to use; the only drawback to editing is that there's no audio during playback.

ok awesome. but i think im missing a step still...all i have is the vob/ifo files on my hard drive and i cant open those up directly with cuttermaran....so im assuming i have to convert it somehow but i want to make sure i dont lose quality, and i want to keep all the dvd menus, etc....

thnx

hi Scheme138,

to be honest, i have never used cutterman, so i am unfamiliar with its requirements.

for a simpler approach i would highly recommend using dvdshrink in re-author mode which allows you to select only the scenes you wish to keep, and creates a compliant dvd from this. using this method also has the advantage that if your final dvd is larger than a blank dvd, dvdshrink will compress the final output so that it will fit.

please note, however that your resultant dvd will have no menus, extras etc. it is possible to add a menu to it after processing and there are guides avaliable by using the forum search.

here is a link to a guide which details the cutting process in dvdshrink.

good luck

well its not as simple as that....the parts i want to cut out arent really entire scenes. its certain frames within several different frames.....and i want to keep the menu, etc.....

damn you michael madsen.

hi there,

u mentioned, certain frames within certain other frames that u want to cut

do u mean that when u watch the movie, a little mini-frame appears in one corner of the screen with the guy chattin about the movie etc?

if this is so ur probably just looking at two different versions of the movie on the same disc. open it up in dvd shrink, c if there r two titles of the same length

if so, preview them and select the one without the annoying frames. u wont b able to keep the menus, but u can copy the menu and author it back in

no its embed into the movie itself.....between scenes it cuts into the narrative, then goes back to the movie.....only one movie.......

Try Mpeg2Cut2 . Nice and accurate freeware app.

well that app worked...sort of......the vob it left me with, when i opened it in vobrator.......it had the commentary audio only, and i couldnt burn it back to a dvd...i couldnt even demux it.........when editing it, it would need to be software that retained the structure of the vob (ie seperate audio tracks, etc) and editing out the video and all the audio tracks for the section i cut out.....

this probably doesnt make much sense........im a newbie to dvd's....but i appreciate the help :)

i tried a few other things....like just trying to play the dvd after i edit it on my computer and not trying to burn it....but still no luck......cutting out the scens with mpeg2cut2 makes the vob files useless.....and i cant demux them either....it just runs and loops forever....any suggestions?

Doesn't your ORIGINAL, COMMERCIAL, purchased DVD offer the choice of playing with or without the additional commentary? If so, you've simply ripped the wrong version. Re-rip it and select the "Normal" version...

(Or, you should be able to select "No commentary" and/or "No interactive" from the menu)

By the way, did you purchase the standard version or the Director's Cut?

@Scheme138

Use Vobblanker found on the download page on this site under vobtools.

YES! vobblanker worked perfect! took awhile since i had to encode the movie for each scene i cut out....but 15 times later, i got a perfect movie!

thank you!
