A new version of the VP7 codec has been released and can be found here:

On2 Website (http://www.on2.com/register_trial.php?class=VP7)

There are a few main improvements since the last downloadable version.

1) Free Trial License Extension

Free trial has been extended to 30 days, and if you've downloaded an older version you can now get a newer version and extend your trial period.

2) Addition of Speed Slider

We added a speed slider, to allow users to select compression speed. At higher speed settings the compressor runs faster. At slower settings the compressor produces higher quality results.

As an example, the following results were made using sagittaire's movie metric benchmark challenge source clip as described here:

Movie Metric BenchMark Test (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=90784)

Mode Speed Mins fps OPSNR SSIM
---- ----- ----- ---- ------- -----------
Best n/a 13:29 3.8 40.7703 69.60783207
Good 0 8:5 6.3 40.6787 69.26216614
Good 1 5:39 9.1 40.6234 69.15486557
Good 2 5:20 9.6 40.5712 68.97606882
Good 3 4:17 12.0 40.2839 67.55805933
Good 4 2:14 23.0 40.1687 67.18458972
Good 5 1:30 34.2 39.9335 65.64112115

3) Improved Speed on Non-WMT machines

We added quite a few mmx optimizations. On some athlons the improvement to speed is 2-4x in best quality mode.

4) Improved Quality

Made some good improvements to two pass best quality mode.

On this same test clip from sagittaire:

VP7 7.0.4.0 Best 446 kbps | 6749 Ko | 40.7279 | 68.84
VP7 7.0.6.0 Best 446 Kbps | 6747 Ko | 40.7703 | 69.67

5) Removed the need to select Min Q in 2nd Pass

VP7 now selects a min quantizer in the second pass. You should no longer need to change the min q to get very solid 2 pass results.

Here are Version Release Notes:

Version 7.0.6.0
=======================================
- fixed problem with interlaced material
- better quality speed slider options
- further improvements to speed on non intel boxes
- moved to 30 day trial license

Version 7.0.5.0
=======================================
- not as sensitive to minq for 2 pass compressions
- added speed slider allowing user to trade off speed for quality
in good quality mode
- improved quality at best mode
- changed first pass stats file ( caution: won't work with old
first pass file)
- improved speed on non mmx machines

If possible, I'd like to keep this thread for just notes on new releases, and thus ask for people to post questions and or comments in the vp7 thread:

Hello On2Tech, :)

I have a small question
Do exist any relation between Edius 3 pro and On2 Technology?

Thank you for advance.

Not that I am aware. Wish there was.
