found a bunch of mpeg-4 avc/h.264 high profile samples from FastVDO here (http://www.fastvdo.com/H.264.html), ranging from 176X144@109 Kbps to 1280X720@3.73 Mbps

they also provide a dshow decoder there :)

I'm not gonna comment their products, but I heard one of them helped our dev in Vegas night in certain non-serious but essential situation... :) So they are cool. :)

Nice! Now I can play, at least the first five minutes, of The Matrix Reloaded that I encoded with the JM 9.4 Reference Encoder using High Profile. This is the first decoder that would play back encodes using 8x8 transform. I hope they add this to the Nero/Ateme codec soon.

how to play????? my wmp10 won't play it anyway! maybe nero's d-show-filter sucks.

update: yes. I've uninstalled nero and now i can see these wonderful pictures. great great great ... great!!!

This is the first firm which shows h.264 realy ahead something different. And they show h.264 realy beeing better than asp and mpeg2. Great! :D

When x264 will include high profile??? or ateme? or fastvdo?

@JohnV

How soon will Nero support decoding of High Profile video? The only thing I have not been able to play with the Nero codec is High Profile with 8x8 transform. Disable 8x8 transform and High Profile plays fine. Actually, High Profile with 8x8 transforms plays with jerky movement, is blocky, and eventually freezes.

I'm pretty sure in the next update release.. :) I just sent a notice to our dev who is responsible of the AVC decoding and uploaded an example high profile 8x8 stream for him, so shouldn't take long..

Can anyone do some muxing tests in order to find out whether mp4box or mp4creator handle AVC High Profile correctly ?

FastVDO and nero dshow filters should work for decoding ... ;)

I'd like to see something other than live action samples. some american cartoons as well as anime would be great because then we can see how it handles other types of material.

thank you - purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
it whirrs like a panther

to the files: only the ocean-scene looks something ugly to me, because the horizon is very blurry and you see a lot of "deblocked" blocks. But 3,73 Mbps/s is just stunning!!! So give me the codec, I'll do the rest ... :D

We found out that the reason this didn't decode properly with Nero's decoder was actually a bug in the JM94 reference encoder/decoder!
The cabac initialisation table entry #418, non-I-frame, model 1 has an incorrect value of (32, -13). It should be (33, -13).

apart from that the mpc mpegsplitter doesnt handle avc-in-mpg

bond i meant those high profile streams they play here in mpc with the fastvdo codec, but results are not clear (visual problems) on some frames sorry for the missunderstandment didn't try those normal ones yet.

(32, -13) is the correct value. There was a typo in a draft version of the text. It has been corrected and should be correct in the published FRExttext version.
