View Full Version : Is re-encoding always necessary for authoring ripped vob files?

Hi. Just a very quick newbie question (I hope).

In the guide for authoring with ifoedit http://www.doom9.org/mpg/ifoedit-dvdauthor.htm

it says you have to rip, then re-encode using CCE or whatever.

My source is a single title set ripped using DVDDecrypter (3.5.4.0) in IFO mode. Having removed other PGCs and unwanted audio streams I now have a title set which will fit onto a single DVD. So I don't have to lower the bitrate to get it on.

My question: Will I still have to re-encode?
Wouldn't these vob files already be DVD-compliant?

I noticed that the guide is a fair bit older than the latest version of DVDDecrypter and was sort of hoping something might have changed.

I am still trying to understand some of the basics. Thank you for your patience.

I can't remember for sure, but I think that IFOedit (or some other free prog) has an option to create IFO files for input VOB files.

In any case if all you need are elementary streams, try using VOBedit to demux them and them plug them into your authoring prog.

Your vob file/s should allready be dvd compliant. As an alternative to what you did you can use Dvdshrink (free)to rip the dvd using the reauthor mode, which will give you the main movie only.
