Over at Digital Digest, they have implemented a couple of pretty good things, which, given that doom9 has essentually the same software, you might want to look at:
1. In each post, there is now a "Link" button. This is really useful for making links to other posts.
2. At the top is a New Posts link, which would be great for folks who would just like to see what's new for the day.
See here (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50071) for an example.
Can this be done here at doom9?

1) vbb3 will have that. When do we upgrade? Ask Swede.. updating the hacks is his domain and unfortunately we have a pretty complex hack (mark as read.. what we have is way better than what vbb offers.. but such a thing goes deep)
2) vbb3 has that too. I guess even vbb2 has it but I wouldn't recall where. Though, with our advanced mark as read, all the forums and posts that have unread posts will automatically be marked as such.. so if you press "mark everything read" once before you leave, next time you have all your new posts automatically marked without the need for a search.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I think over at Digital Video, the new posts link is limited to the past 24 hours (or perhaps from 0000 GMT). In any event, I think it can be configured and is defintely not since when the user last logged in (which could be days and take up valuable bandwidth just doing searches).
I do think the links button is really useful and I would hope that not too many folks feel it would "bloat" the board. Maybe the mods can discuss this? As to the software, they are running v2.3.6, not version 3.
Thanks for considering it.

It has been decided a long while back that we would not touch the current board code anymore. The upgrade has been long planned, but real life precedes certain nonessential tasks like a forum upgrade..
