Greetings!
I have some recordings with pillar-boxing (a black bar on either side of the vid-image) since they were made from a 4:3 programme being broadcast in a 16:9 format. The original file format is MPEG-2, but I have no problem demuxing it with ProjectX and converting it to VOBs for DVD Authoring.
In case I'm not making the problem very clear, it's also mentioned here: http://www.tv-cards.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=5965 - I gather it's something to do with AFD
I thought there might be a suitable fix that could be applied, similar to the cropping techniques available in most art packages. After a little searching I found several mentions (on the Doom9 main site) referring to Nero Recode.
I have been trying to get Nero Recode to crop the video files in question, but I can only see 3 options in Recode, none of which seem to apply. If I try and access the "Convert DVD-Video Movies to Nero Digital(TM)" through the "Nero Start Smart" front-end, nothing happens :(. I am using the latest packages from Nero's website.
Therefore, assuming Nero is not going to work , is there any other software that's easy to use, ideally free, and that can crop the video to remove the bars? :)
If this has come up before, I couldn't find it, so please point me in the right direction ;). What terms should I be searching for?
I have found a partial solution is to make sure the IFO aspect ratio is 16:9 so that the image isn't too distorted, but the black bars are still quite evident.
Thanks in advance :)
PS: This is a great forum, if a little over whelming with the number of threads/members
