"Re-authoring" with PgcEdit (v0.52+)

Hello boyz,

After blanking this movie down to one ac6 audio and one sub-picture stream, my head was spinning trying to tailor this movie which has only the menu+language+chapters and not one single special feature/bonus to begin with. Yet all GPRMS have been used! To top it off this movie does not even have the rsm/RESUME feature! So, there I go again, got into thinking and decided to try out this nutty idea:

First, when loaded into PgcEdit I killed/deleted every SINGLE command line of the whole movie! Hey, I got the original rip safely stored in the F drive. Didn't I warn you that it's a nutty idea? Then on the Utilities dropdown I chose New Menu. It killed all the dummy VMGM leaving only one behind. The I started rebuilding the flow, replacing the menu buttons with new commands and the result is listed below. It may be unnecessary to point out that I used gprm6 to control the on/off function ot the sub-title and the gprm7 for the resume feature which I learned from another movie. Below is the DVD command saved from PgcEdit.

The above seems to be working fine with ShowTime...I have tested the result exhaustively to the best of my knowledge especially pertaining to the on/off function of the sub-title. So, any comment/criticism/guidance is appreciated.

If the above is ok, then r0lZ, would you please create the utility which I would like to name it the Neutron(bomb) in which the structure remains intact while all commands are wiped out? TIA.

It's easy to do. I use sometime a similar method, but I like to selectively wipe out the commands of some domains only.
Is it OK if I add a "Delete All Commands of Current Domain" function, or do you really want a "Delete All Commands of the DVD"?

title 2 resides in VTS1, no can remove. After the movie, the gprm6 is resetted back to zero for triggering process...that's the plan.

That's right, lark.

It's what got me er, nutty in the first place. All gprms were used for such a simple set of menus in the original. So I went on a cracking spree and ended up using only 2 gprms. ;)

Boyz, here's another one:

I think I have finally solved this myself on re-authoring with the 2disk TROY. For some in-explicable reasons I just love this movie! Must be Brad Pitt(batting dreamy eyes)(lmao) with his crouching tiger move. "IS THERE NOONE ELSE!?" :D.

The original plan was to preserve the movie without shrinking by splitting it with VobBlanker. I discovered there's lots of room on the 2nd disk and I like a couple of titles on the bonus disk....

Now with PgcEdit's menu editing capablities, I can merge both the last half of the movie and the two bonus titles on the second disk. There is a "Special Feature" menu button which when accessed would display the page which says that they are on disk 2.:rolleyes: I found that pgc page and REPLACE it with the bonus disk main menu page with VobBlanker. Then I used PgcEdit's "play the last clip import"(forgot the wording, am @work) function to add the 2 desired bonus clips, one at a time. BE very cautious at this point! There will be 2 new post command entries on the main movie title! After all you ARE using PgcEdit's utility which IS meant to do exactly THAT, as in play the import at the end of the movie! So, please delete the newly added 2 line post commands. Do the same when importing the second clip(and so on if you have more).

Then access the imported bonus main menu page and edit the buttons accordingly, pointing to the desired target. Voila!

(I know I know, it sucks without pictures. Do the honours, Blu?)

Note that, to avoid the problem with the 2 post commands, you may use this method:

1. Import the 1st closing clip the normal way.
2. Select the clip you just imported, and import the 2nd closing clip.

This way, the 2nd closing clip is really the first closing clip of the first imported clip (sic!), and you don't have to edit the commands.
Using this method, you may chain as many clips as you want.

What would that do? Myself I would love to be able to blank everything but the movie. When you have 16 VTS, it gets really tedious to blank them one by one, especially because the "OK" button does not work in the blanking panel... I usually do my backups that way, movie only with menus...

The 3rd nutty installment:

Here's a scenario, a 2disk movie, disk1 with movie & a bonus title or two that you like. Disk2 have a few choice clips that you want. All grouped together would fit into one disk nicely shrunk or not. So, here's how I did it....

Used DVDshrink's re-author method and transcode lets say 4 titles onto one folder. Go ahead and retain your choice of audio & sub-title(s).
Don't exit Shrink yet, with the same 4 choices make another one, each title say with 30sec clip with Shrink's chop chop method.
Now, you need this great simple program called DVDauthorgui written by one of the DOOM9 members, liquid217.
Use your fav softplayer that can capture a frame for menu creating purpose with the above.
Go ahead and do your DVD authoring the DVDauthor(now v.99).
Here's the reason why I chose with those 4 30s clips; takes little time to author. :D
Load those full 4 titles created by Shrink in PgcEdit.
Import menu(I think it's under Utility Menu...)
Final adjustment on the last title's post command from EXIT to return to main root menu...
Ole ! Viva me ! :D

If you want fancy ansy, go ahead and use a gprm to direct the highlighting of the button after playing each title. For example, highlighting button 2 of the menu when finished playing title 1, button after title 2 and so on and so on. Another nice to have is a play-all button... Hey, go nuts!

@surf: I have implemented some of your requests in PgcEdit 0.5.6beta1 (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=643951#post643951).

@blutach and jeanl: The function to blank out all title domains is implemented as a call to the Blank Out All PGCs in Domain tool, for every title domais in the DVD. This way, you will have to accept the GUI several time, and you will be able to skip the blanking of a specific titleset by cancelling the requester.

This simple ungraded result below took quite a few hours to create....I hope that a resident expert here can pass it anf if it does I feel it is a useful template for non-coders such as myself when re-routing in PgcEdit. It has been ran through many times in Showtime player.

Button 1: gprm3=0, sub-title on (inserted in FIRST PLAY PGC, on by default, I like watching with sub)
Button 2: gprm3=3, sub-title off
Button 3: gprm3=1, 2nd sub-t on (2nd language, in my case it's the descriptive making of movie sub, quite kewl)
Button 4: gprm3=2, 2nd sub-t off

I think this is the flow when the playbutton is pressed at the main menu:
First 3 line are not true so it went to line4 which in turn got directed to line9 to activate the sub(by personal preference). Line11 is important otherwise line12 would be activated!

While the movie has started, say I decided to watch the second sub and choose it. Line1 becomes true and goes to line5 and then the next line6 directs the flow to line13, bypassing the rest.

Needless to say that it won't work if you want to keep all the subs listed in ISO639.
Be nice, say something encouraging :D

One leetle tip on backing up old hollywood movies:

Usually I just use the 2disk method for they are quite lengthy. They usually have entree, intermission, entrace, exit music...:rolleyes: which can be easily cured by VobBlanker most of the time.

On one movie I decided to use just one disk instead. Blanking the intermission cell in the middle which is also the chapter16 of a total of 30 chapters.

I noticed that in Showtime, if skipping chapters backwards to chapter15 and below, I'll get stuck! It's understandable for Chapter 16 is empty!

Here's a crude but functioning solution: load it in PgcEdit and double click the movie and insert 1(second) on the cell/chapter16 in question. Voila! It seems to do the trick for it has enough time to pause and shift it backward to chapter15!

... I use a similar method with a pre-authored menu. I use only 2 buttons: one for the original version (say, english with french subtitles) and another for the french version. It's verry simple to import the menu afterward in a DVD-Shrink reauthored DVD.
The RSM code is smart too.

The above was made with PGCedit. Under the File dropdown, NEW DVD is chosen, then import VTST title, the main movie. Again imported the VTS-02 which has 4 titles along with the menu created in DVDstyler. Finally used Menu2Still function on Title1 menu, trimmed the VTSM slightly and then used the Utilities dropdown, IMPORT MENU.

As ever, suggestions welcome, TIA.

Hmmm...directly jumping between VTSM 1 and VTSM 2 via menu buttons? I don't think this is in DVD specs. Though there might be some players out there to disregard this.

Believe it or not I had a naggin doubt about it too, not that I'm proficient with the vm command. PgcEdit didn't give me a pink slip, ShowTime played ok, 2 JVCs ok-ed too....

So, to be absolutely positively compliant, I should do a "call(jump) to vmgm pgc1" and then "jump to VTSM2, Root Menu (TTN 1)" ?

[EDIT] or you could use this common flow. Button command is LinkTailPGC. Jump to VMGM PGC in post command. Jump to VTSM PGC in VMGM Pre command. Does this makes sense to you?
