Under the input resolution tab of GK there r options for the following:

PAL
NTSC
720x576

My question is, if PAL is already 720x576 why the extra option? - whats the difference?

Thanx in advance.

Hi-

That 720x576 is in the "Other" row, right? Why don't you tick the NTSC, and watch it change to 720x480. And if you then tick the "Other" button, it'll just say what it last said before you ticked it. Don't know if that made any sense, though.

Now open an AVI in GKnot, and watch the "Other" button get ticked, and the AVI resolution be displayed. GKnot isn't just for PAL or NTSC DVD to AVI. You can also reencode AVI, among other things, and that's when the "Other" button is used.

you have missed an important part of the "720x576" option. next to the radiobutton it says _other_ and if you check it you can enter any resolution you can imagine (more or less). it is just defaulted to the PAL value.

anyway, if you're encoding normal PAL DVDs, just leave it at PAL ;)

It also comes in handy sometimes when you can't quite get the output set to the right ratio. I don't remember which one, but I was working with a source that, after cropping, was pretty far off aspect and the only way I could find to correct it was to tell it the input was 720 x 388.
