PgcEdit WARNING: Region Code prohibition!

My friend has a DVD, he ripped it onto his hard drive, and later he found that the DVD put another region code checking mechaism in the commands of VMGM, then he edited it...

I got the "DeCSS-ed" IFO and the "DeCSS-ed + edited" IFO files and played it around in pgcedit, and I found an interesting thing:

When I open the "DeCSS-ed + edited" IFO files in Trace mode, then go to Virtual Player Setup and set the region code to anything other than 3 and save, and then when I press the "insert DVD(restart Trace)" button, I will get an error: WARNING: Region Code prohibition! And irony thing is, the "DeCSS-ed" IFO files don't have this problem (it has only one problem -- jumps to VMGM PGC 3, which is a deadlock)...

I actually edited the "DeCSS-ed" IFO myself and got no problem...
So actually the purpose of this post is I am wondering why would my friend's edited version get that Region Code Prohibition Warning (I hadn't seen this warning before, and I would like to know under what condition would this warning show up?)...

It's verry simple: this warning is displayed when the region code of the DVD prohibits the usage of the DVD in the region you have configured in the virtual player setup.

I don't understand why your friend ends up with a protected DVD. Maybe a bug in a program he used, or an human mistake.

Note that DVDShrink set the DVD region code to allow regions 1 to 6, but prohibits regions 7 and 8. Region 7 is currently unused, and region 8 is reserved for international locations, like airports, cruise ships, etc...

Anyway, you can easily turn the region code protection off in PgcEdit.

you're right, just opened it with pgcedit, pressed the region code button and found that it was set to region 3...

I always thought the region code settting was in the pgc commands and so I kept looking throungh them and found nothing... :(
I have been using pgcedit for over a year and have never touched the region code button (all ripped DVD's are region free already), that why I missed it... :p (I didn't even notice that button... :D)
