DVD Shrink won't rip with DMA set

I need some help. I have a pioneer 16x dvd burner and an ASUS DVD ROM drive. I like to put the dvd I'm backing up in the ASUS and the blank media in the pioneer and let shrink rip and the burn automatically. This works when I have PIO mode set for the ASUS, but it is really slow. If I set it to DMA mode, I get an error message that the DVD is copy protected and shrink can't read it.

What gives? Anything I can do to make it work?

DVD Shrink ripping is outdated and not supported anymore. To rip any DVD's, use DVD Decrypter in File or ISO mode.

That's why it won't rip in DMA mode? It hasn't been updated to support that?

Well, it should. But you could have a bug there, or you could have a problem in your system. Best way to diagnose that is to try a different ripping program.

If DVD Shrink is at fault, it wont ever be repaired. Its not supported by its maker anymore..

If you like doing it the way you are, use a newer program that will still get updates and have more support, such as DVD43 which does 'on the fly' decryption.

Have you looked for a firmware update for your drive?

The latest 16x asus dvdrom drive has problems with DVD Shrink unless you use the 1.07 firmware.

You should also try using DVD Decrypter because it'll show you any errors you're getting whilst trying to read from the drive - rather than just displaying a generic 'copy protection' error.

Thanks for the info. I am using firmware 1.07. I downloaded DVD43 and it seems to be working fine so far.

Well if you do have DMA problems, that would probably get around them as it has its own drivers. Any other program using SPTI would probably still fail.

So you've pretty much found a workaround, not a solution.

I have used DVD Dycrypter in the past. I like being able to simpy use the one program to do both. I know that I'm actually using two programs, but it seems like using one to me.
