Hi,

I've been trying to rip my tv show box sets onto my comp (xvid codec). Its my first attempt at ripping. So, i used gknot. I followed the guide and all seems to have gone fine except for one thing. The end result has the black bars (common to widescreen vids) applied twice. So, the end result is that the vid is smooshed vertically. I dunno what i did wrong. For testing, I used the no surrender, no retreat vid on the season 4 of Babylon 5 dvd set. Its short so i can do testing before i do the eps. So, any idea on how i can fix this?

Hello, and welcome to the forum-

First, open the final AVI in VDubMod. Do you see the same thing there as you do when playing the video with your player? If yes, you didn't crop and resize correctly. If no, and it looks OK in VDubMod, then I would guess that you have your player set up wrong, and perhaps it's ouputting the wrong aspect ratio.

What does the vobs look like when they are opened in VDubMod?

I suggested opening the final AVI in VDubMod, and then seeing if they had the same AR as when you played them. If you open the vob files, you'll get 720x480/576, same as the DVD.
