View Full Version : DVD Decrypter Does not respect the chosen burn speed for ISO write

The burnt DVD-Rs work fine, the media is rated for 1x - 4x
Whatever write speed I select - which is either 2x or 1x it always just burns it at 4x.
I am using DVD Decrypter version 3540
My media is packaged as Maxell but is identified as Ritek. The reason I would like to burn at a slower speed is because after horrible, horrible experiences of losing data on a lot of 'Vivastar' unbranded Discs I believe that burning at slower speeds results generally in less errors in the write process (which are corrected as it is being burnt).
The program is excellent and I have no actual complaints about it -only praise, but I thought I should point this out. Here's a screen shot after I burned my last backup data DVD, I hope it is useful.

Some more details. I noticed in the information in the right-hand pane that DVD Decrypter only seems to identify 4x as being a supported write speed, so maybe this is why it always only writes at that speed? My DVD-Rs on the packaging states 1x - 4x , (exact text on the DVD-R packing box is: "This product conforms to DVD specifications for recordable disc for general version 2.0/4x-SPEED DVD-R revision 1.0 and allows 1x to 4x recording"), but also I noticed it states that they are new high-speed recordable discs.
Here is DVD Decrypter information from the right-hand pane before I begin the ISO write:

Emprex DRW1016IM
Windows XP just calls it DVDRW IDE 16X
In the little booklet that came with the Drive it claims the writing speed for DVD-R is max. 16x

I have just had a good, thorough look through the supplied information and it only lists max reading and writing speeds for each of the supported disc formats.
I guess my drive might not support the lower writing speeds of 1x or 2x, Is that what you think? :( I'll be quite disappointed if this is what I am stuck with. I mean disappointed with the drive - not the excellent DVD Decrypter program.

that's exactly what i was suspecting.
have you tried with some other burning progs?
did you get some proggy with the drive?
on the other hand, there are plenty of those for free.
but obviously, if your drive doesn't support low burning speeds, no proggy will help...

i just burned 1 dvd with dvddecrypter and noticed that it shows the supported write speeds ;-)
looking back to your earlier post... there's the answer

You need better media if you are getting data loss at 4X. Try some Taiyo Yuden.

The burnt DVD-Rs worked fine :)
But previously I had problems with some shite media and had read that generally more errors are introduced at higher burning speeds while checking up on this, which could mean that the error correction is less tolerant to scratches - so I was just wanting to burn at lower speeds. Then I noticed that DVD Decrypter was not burning at the lower speeds I had selected - that's all

Hi,
Taiyo Yuden's discs are excellent. But Ritek G04 are probably the best medias on Earth just after TY...
My nintendo gamecube, witch is especially difficult with DVD+/-R can only run backups made on TY02 and RitekG04 discs.
Your vivastar medias were probably awfull, but now you don't have bad medias. (But I never seen your burner ;)

I am glad to know my Ritek G04 discs have a good reputation. I had read around on the internet trying to find out about them - after learning that I had not actually brought 'Maxell' discs as they were packaged :sly: , some people say they are poor but genereally they are spoken of as quite good.
Since my last post I have accessed my backups on these new discs and NO PROBLEMS so far. The combination of making an image with MKISOFS and then burning the image with DVD Decrypter to the Ritek G04s seems to be producing nice high quality results so far. Disc recognition after inserting them, and then reading and copying operations seems to be faster than with the older Vivastar discs. So the burning at 4x does not seem to have been a problem, I still have the long-term test for data durability but would that be affected by the odds introduced by Write-speed and resulting Error correction combination as applied to the problems introduced by handling, use and scratches??
So far though, nothing but :thanks: @ LIGHTNING UK for a nice, superior program
